They were good machines, but my A1200 was revolutionary (for me at least). Smaller than the A500, packing 2MB RAM standard and an internal hard drive. Since I could use the Power supply + monitor at my clients office, it was almost like a laptop for me. I used it to write the accounting system for a small business using HiSoft Basic, rendered my first 3D stuff on it, and even got on the net with SLIP, later PPP, and had my first experience with the web.

I thought at the time the web was unbearably slow with the speeds of the day being 14.4kbps, and Mosaic performing quite badly in only 2MB. These days I have 4GB RAM and 4Mbps downstream, and pages still seem to take forever to load.

I don't remember the (68000 based) Amiga ever being marketed as a 32-bit platform, nor was this touted by the numerous fanboys I knew (and was among) - perhaps the confusion came from later models (68020+) which were indeed 32-bits on both instruction and address buses.

Where I live, many government agencies such as Police and the Tax Department call from blocked numbers. Ignoring the obvious joke that you don't want to talk to these people anyway, the reality is you'll often get calls from numbers that aren't in your phonebook. My income certainly would suffer if I adopted your suggestion, ever job I've ever got in the last ten years would have resulted from saying "Hello?" to a stranger.

What he's saying is: tinyurls don't fly here because - mainly as a result of the moderation system completely failing - you've not much choice as to whose posts (and tinyurl goatse links) you see. Additionally, it's not necessary, since any URL can fit in a slashdot post, and you can even anchor them properly.

On twitter, you've a choice as to who you follow, and can reasonably expect tinyurl links will be useful and interesting.

Yes, I know about 'preview', and I don't care. Stop breaking the Web where it isn't necessary. Use tinyurls only when you must.

I see what you mean when a project is shared (for example included with Blender as an example project). I doubt this will be an issue for the majority of Blender users who have no intention at all of sharing their project files. Even if you decided to develop your own binding and language just for your own specific in-house task, as long as your work is proprietary it's not going to be any more of an issue than my private collection of shell scripts that so specific to my purposes they're essentially useless to anyone else.
