This is the perfect response. I have seen too many DB's brought to a screeching halt by even properly written queries to trust 'outside' people to have such access.

Our DBA at work told me once that at his previous employer you had to submit a request with the DBA indicating why and how often you wanted to run a given query before you could run any sort of query at all.

I know a similar limit showed up at my university (to remain nameless) shortly after a friend of mine backed up his hard drive as a uuencoded email message to himself. It was only on the server for a couple of hours but still...

You also need to consider, the question does not ask, "Which came first, the chicken or the chicken egg?"
It just says egg. So it doesn't really matter what kind of egg it is, as long as it hatches the first chicken then the egg came first.

Forget about not learning the tools for your career - some of them are bound and determined not to learn a goddamn thing, period.

You're dead on with this. When I was in school, I worked at a help desk answering questions dealing with any of the computer systems on campus. One day I had a guy come up to me and ask how to print stuff on the laser printer (this was about 10 years ago), but he didn't want to have to learn anything to do it!
After calming down enough that I didn't ask him what the hell he thought he was in school for, I simply pointed him to the document we had on the process and told him to read it.

Well, I happen to work in the Gunbarrel area, and I just happened to be near the airport the article mentions at about the time (extreme coincidence, I won't go into details here).

The only bright light I saw was an airplane landing at said airport. Personally, I think what was going on was a lot of drug use. (Yes, there is enough drug use in the Boulder area to have 60 people mystified by an airplane landing.)
