I know this is a bit of a hairpin left turn, but it's along the same lines as life on Mars: does not finding it mean it's not there? if/when do you give up looking? what happens if you're wrong?

Aside from that, I agree with Moore on this whole Iraq war thing. I think we should take what's left of the $150,000,000,000 from the war, convert to a hydrogen economy as quickly and efficiently as possible - here's how - so we can forget the Middle East and their precious oil, spend as little as we can to get the Iraqis back on their feet and us out of their hair, then make a note to not play the World's Big Brother. We should not step into a war without a) UN support and b) a major human right being trampled, OR c) payment either in funds up front or promise of future economic returns.

Actually, as far as I know, Dadaism and Tristan Tzara came up with the idea of cut-up poetry. Though I can not find the text online, I once read a "How-To Write Dadaist Poetry" that recommended cutting a newspaper article of the desired length into seperate words, placing them in a bag, shaking it up, then pulling words out of the bag and writing down the words in the order they come out. Using this technique, I wrote Egging.

I was thinking about the military aspect to, but more along the lines of p2p sharing of information.
For instance, imagine being in a urban enviroment where you have just one of the soldiers carrying the bag, with everyone else with wearable computers, live cam feed and audio. you can shoot an image within the network to whomever needs to see it. Useful for extremely fast dissemination of information. I see it being especially useful in rural areas, or areas where there's not ready access to a satellite or whatever they might otherwise use in this scenario.

All my friends and I at school IM each other (yes, even my roommate/suitemates), but we use proper spelling/typing/grammar.
I also make a point to harrass anyone - especially my little sister - who spells words with numbers, or uses horrid abbreviation, or anything mutated beyond belief.

i thought so the first time i read it too, thoguh i was in 9th grade at the time and focused on the general plot and the pure concept of going to Mars. now that i'm reading the series over for the 5th time - i'm on Red Mars right now - i see the characters alot better than i did the first time. i see what they do right now and can compare them to actions they take in the later novels, and there's alot of character development under the surface, you just have to watch for it. Even John Boone, who one first reading seems to be one of the most stereotypical characters in the book.

but you see, that's the great thing about OSC, he's not letting hollywood screw it. as your link and www.hatrack.com show, he's writing the screenplay (which he already has lots of experience in doing plays), he's producing it, and he hand-picked and is working *very* closely with the director, Wolfgang Peterson.
