  1. Re:Just think if SLASHDOT had written LOTR... on Lord of the Rings, as Written By Everyone Else · · Score: 1

And what about... The Black Gates of Redmond - guarded by Orc Server 2000's and the great XP firewall of mountains on either side - stood before them, and in the distance behind, the Mountain of Programmers, belching out shite over all the lands (except fair LothLinux?). And Frodo looked at Sam, and a slight smile came to his faceand, turning to Gollum said "You can go where you will, you have kept your promise. And anyway, we'll be out of here in no time"

  2. Who will use this? on Creative Commons Launches Today · · Score: 4, Interesting

Although this seems like a fine idea in theory, I am having difficulty imagining many situations where people would use it, which would be useful to others.
It is not going to replace copyright for music or books (I realise these aren't mentioned, I'm just trying to think of some possible use - theirs are pretty crap and unlikely) for example - the industry wouldn't touch it for obvious reasons.
If it takes off at all, it would be for the benefit of amateurs only, but then, what's the point?

  6. Re:Ehh ... on Windows Refund Day II · · Score: 1

Not really true. Unless the manufacturer is too big to care what you really want, they will usually allow you to configure the machine, leave bits out or add bits in to the package. When it comes to OSes though, MS managed to get themselves into this situation by insisting that every machine is shipped with an OS. Most manufacturers offer no choice but Windows because it is the market leader, Windows is piss easy to set up and their system builders don't know how, or haven't the time to set anything else up. Yes you knew what you were getting, but you really should be given the option not to take it. AFAIK the refund is their idea anyway...
