"WHO THE H*#&! ARE YOU AND WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO MUCK AROUND WITH THIS TREASURED PIECE OF LITERATURE, YOU AMERICAN HOLLYWOOD HACK?"
I like this guy already.
Seriously though, the attitude he has in this self interview gives me (some) hope for this movie. He seems concerned with keeping the movie parallel to Douglas Adams' intentions and style.
He also noted how his initial reaction after reading Douglas's script was "I can't write this, this guy's a genius and I'm no genius."
"I was never trying to put my stamp on this material or bring my 'voice' to it (whatever the h*#&! that elusive thing is)."
Who knows, it may even turn out decent. Eh, who am I kidding.
"If everyone is paying $5 a month, that means that 'Ice Ice Baby' has as much value as the Beatles catalog does. And I just don't think that is a wise or logical thing to do." -David Sutphen, RIAA vice-president
Up Next: Vanilla Ice has released his new title: "Fuck you too RIAA" on the web
Well, I've only used fink myself - it was bigger than Darwinports when I started using it. It still is, to quote MacNN (april 2003): "DarwinPorts currently has 350+ ports in its tree, while Fink has 2,300+." Here is also an O'Reilly review of both Darwinports and Fink. It is also from April 2003, but it does cover both systems and their advantages fairly well.
Another interesting project (which I do not know too much about) is Metapkg, an alliance between Fink, DarwinPorts, and Gentoo established to "facilitate delivery of freely available software to Mac OS X."
To quote the June 2003 announcement of Metapkg:
While each project will continue to deliver software in their own way, the coordination between projects will:
accelerate the development efforts of all projects
avoid unwanted duplication of effort
improve the consistency, quality, and responsiveness of ports
An alternative to DarwinPorts, is Fink, which uses debian tools (apt-get, dkpg). The package database indexing is a little screwed right now, so I can't give an exact number of packages.. but there are at least 500 packages in stable, and at least 300 in testing (It's rising as I type this..)
It has the usual stuff, including KDE and Gnome2.4
We got ours taken at the American Embassy in Israel when we were there a few weeks ago (were there to get a new visa stamp).
Anyone 14 or over is required to have their prints taken, and chcked every time they enter the US.
The article is right; it really didn't take that much longer than usual. As long as it doesn't slow the already crappy process to go through at 5 AM after a 12 hour flight, it doesn't really bother me.
Actually, something like that already happened in Ultima Online.
The story goes that a while back one of the UO GMs (game masters/admins) used his powers to create valuable items and sell them to players. Exact details were never released, but he supposedly made around $8000 before being caught.
Here is a link to the story, including OSI's official statement:
Actually, it's running Opie, or Open Palmtop Integrated Environment,
which is an improved clone of Qtopia. Opie IS open source, and really much better than it's older brother.
