Actually, we have solar city on our roof, and we love it. Other than summer, we pay just around 90 for our electricity. BUT, in the summer, we have $200-250 electric bills for 3-4 months depending on heat, etc. With the solar, we pay 100/month. Period. In addition, in jan, we were at about the right amount, but in feb, we sold 244 KWH back to Xcel. For march, it appears that we will sell back some 500-600 KWH.
Now, to be fair, we had in-laws here all last year, and they gone. In addition, I replaced nearly all of our incadescents and CFL with cree LEDs.
As such, our bill is down quite a bit. BUT, within another year, we will have a tesla. At that time, we will still very likely be paying 100/month.
Finally, when the tesla comes, we will pull 3 circuits from the box and put them in a different box, and then power these via solar/battery when our power goes out (and it does).
So, you may not like them, but it is working great for us.
That would be a bad idea and just a way to burn money unless they bring in some existing expertise due to the differences. A university or similar with the people who have already been working on such technology associated with GA, mPower or whoever is a different story. There's no point giving money to develop a new technology to the same people that squashed it last time - they have no real incentive to succeed and they do have an incentive for it to fail since it would compete with their existing products.
Hmmm. I think I should have worded this differently. The idea is that the company like filbe does the R&D, engineering, etc work, BUT, the final construction of it goes to either GA or B&W. With this approach, it is one line of computers, one line of generators, one line of cooling, etc. that are fully debugged. The only real difference would be the reactors.
But, yeah, I agree with you on having them do the work. I will say that GA already has done throium and does NOT want to kill. Look up ft. st. vrain.
Actually, we have built gen IV reactors. Just not in many decades (sad).
BUT, the thorium reactors will take time. I just wish that B&W or GA would take this on, if the feds fund it.
Sadly, between the GOP pushing fossil fuel and the dems fighting nukes, I suspect that we will get nowhere fast.
What I would really like to see happen is for us to provide some grant money to build thorium at GA or mPower. Then simply require that they have similar control rooms, generators, etc. That will make it easier for training, etc.
As to issues such as having a design flaw, by getting 2 very different reactor types, we solve that. In fact, ideally, we would put BOTH reactors on the same site so that at most only one type needs to be taken down. In addition, the thorium reactor can burn up the 'waste' from the mPower unit.
Seriously, they would be better off with new reactors that can be built in a factory, installed quickly, can up their current stash of waste, and is much cheaper than dealing with these old unique reactors.
LOL. Yeah, the Model S is superior to the MB S-class W222 4-door that still costs more. The base on the S-class is 95K. The upper end of the Model S is 100K. And the base of W222 is very spartan and more like a GM or a VW. The Model S is faster, holds more ppl and cargo, has cheap re-fuels, and if you are in a real hurry to fill up, you will, within a year, be able to swap the battery out for one that holds enough power to run you 450+ MPC.
The reason is that the aerodynamic drag caused by the car itself was already high. When you have a car that has exceptionally low drag like the Tesla Model S, they can increase MPC by 5-10% just by switching. That may not sound like much, but to gain that much efficiency with a change that costs almost as much as the original mirrors, is a cheap cheap change.
Texas PUSHED to join the US. It was not a grab by the US. The formal process is simply called anexation, however, I believe that the AC was implying that we grabbed the land like W was making a grab for iraq.
H1B is a total disaster for America. The reason is that it is being used to bring down wages and simply outsource jobs.
Far better to offer visas for those with the needed skills, but require that they be paid at prevailing wages.
You miss the point. By putting in small reactors there and getting cheap energy flowing, they can:
1) make profits that are used to shut down the old reactors.
2) later on, with thorium reactor, the site can burn up about 95% of the old waste, leaving just a fraction to be shipped out or stored deep. And it will be safe within 200 years.
3) Far better to have the utility pay for this with on-going operations, than the customers, who then still have to buy electricity from other sources.
Other than mPower, none of those are going anywhere. Sux, esp for flibe.
As to the reason to go to SMR, I like it for other reasons. Far easier to put it along roads, rails, etc. In addition, with say 100 MWe system being small enough to locate in small towns, they can make use of the waste heat. Right now, everybody stays away from large reactors since they require large amounts of space.
Hmm.
Actually, I think that the real reason for putin to go after Crimea and Eastern Ukraine is that is where large quantities of oil/nat gas is. Enough that it would enable Europe to quit Russia.
Europe really needs to get off that imported energy.
Actually, not just ATK, but all of the companies connected to those republicans that I listed earlier. All of them are on the take for the SLS. Of course, the dems helped push the SLS through as well, but it is house neo-cons/tea* (not the real republicans) that are trying to gut private space.
No. Again, texas joined the US. While Mexico really did not own this land, there is no way for large entities other than the US to have taken on their military. Hence the Alamo.
Oh, I agreed with Canada on that one. Personally, I think that what W/neo-cons did was horribly destructive. I was opposed to how he handled Afghanistan, AQ, Iraq, etc.
BUT, while the west hates that we do this, Russia did not care, or actually enjoyed the fact that we were doing this.
And yet, they continue to have issues with the rocket that launches both the Soyuz and Progress. It is called, just a matter of time.
Regardless, SpaceX is at 100% success with their F9.

Actually, mPower will be installed by 2020. My guess is that if we helped them along, they could be ready within 3-4 years.

So, which do you work for: NSA? Russia? China? MS?
Seriously, they would be better off with new reactors that can be built in a factory, installed quickly, can up their current stash of waste, and is much cheaper than dealing with these old unique reactors.
Why continue this while selling motorola?
LOL. Yeah, typing that in quickly on a droid can be difficult.

If you are a civilian that is close to an area, you should feel better. Less chance of civilian casualty.

Spot on taco. Spot on. Besides, they get to bring their family. Their immediate family. The problem comes when it is extended and they have no skills.

no, they don't. Thorium will burn up 95% of it and the remaining 5% is safe after 200 years. That is why many of use keep pushing this.
Hmm.

Fair enough.
BUT, W wanted to leave a large number of troops in there. O did not. So, they are gone.
Actually, the F9 has 100% success with 8 flights.

No, Ares I was SCHEDULED by 2014, but it was already exteneded out to 2017.
