You don't need more difficult algorithms to do this. Password function should just wait a second or two before returning result. User won't notice a difference, and cracker's computer speed becomes meaningless.
    I could be wrong.

Another advantage of a big organization like Microsoft is a well developped and defined business process - from programming to marketing. It enables them to achieve high productivity and focus. On the other hand Open Source Projects are mostly voluntary and nobody doing voluntary work likes authority and following rules. But, IMHO no organization has the power or resources to destroy open source - not SCO not Microsoft, not even the government. What are they going to do? Destroy all mirrors and burn all the books and CDs? There may be setbacks, but US is not the world. Open source will survive and grow. It doesn't have a deadline respect.

To me this patent is just plain stupid. If we are talking about a publicly available service, can any patent deprive any user of the right to use it in any way he/she pleases?

As I understand it US companies and citizens cannot access the DNS service in a specific order, timeframe and number of times and view the results the way they want to view it.

US Patent office is obviously helping digging the grave for US economy.

    Furtunately I don't live i US.
