I think you were looking for "opposed", as in "going against". "Appose" is a word that's virtually a synonym for "juxtapose", as in things occupying the same space.
How many major newspapers do you think would post a story on the front page saying "Oops... we were wrong" about a previous front page story? If it appears, it'd be buried in the middle of the classifieds or something, so the outrage can continue. As grammatically incompetent as the Slashdot editors are, I can at least give them props for doing it right;)
Really? Your bullshit generator must be misadjusted. Most of those "soft" classes just take a bit of creativity and observation. The ones that got me were the rote memorization stuff like art history or such, where it was mostly focused on memorization of random facts and dates rather than being able to be logically deduced or argued.
Because for people who just use their computers rather than living to use them, a clean install means a week of fiddling with installing things. Doubly so with Windows. People don't want to copy all their data over, or try to find all the game install discs. Reconfigure all the identity information in office, all of your templates, move over your saved games, put them in the right places, web browser bookmarks...
You obviously don't use your computer for much, or have much better habits and a lot more knowledge than most normal users. An upgrade install is pretty much essential.
This is for industrial mowers. Not your lawn. Think more like the mowers for sports stadiums or parks or fields. Those are very noisy, and the constant vibration can be unhealthy. I'm all for it.
It's what they're used to, and it's what their programs run on. Almost everyone who drives a car will take an older car over a brand new motorcycle because it's more familiar and easier for them to figure out how to use.
The subject is not part of your damn post. It's really annoying to try to read. Please, stop. It's not clever, it's not cute, it's not informative. You don't type an email like that, why in the hell would you do it here?
User friendly is a mindset. You treat Linux like Windows, and you'll run into no end of problems. There are still definite flaws in the UI, but a lot of it is caused by "culture clash". A Windows power-user will have more problems switching to Linux than a relative computer illiterate.
Doom's textures and art IP is still under copyright, and it cannot be distributed. So you can get the Doom source code, but you can't get the Doom levels and such. An OS on the other hand basically has ALL of the value tied up in the code.
Why? Does it really take that long to read a bunch of data into RAM? Most of the time spent booting is time spend waiting on the BIOS, which in turn is spending time waiting on hardware, many times unnecessarily. There's no reason for a modern machine to take any longer to boot than it takes for the hard drive to spin up, read some data and do some fast hardware scanning.
There are actually a lot of motherboards sold any more that have solid-state capacitors instead of the electrolytics. Usually pitched to gamers, but any hard-service machine would do well with them.
"Arizona seems to have it's share of messed up policing, but there must be a better way to go about this than ranting on the internet with unsubstantiated claims."
That in no way excuses the behavior of the police. Just because someone is a kook does NOT give them the right to raid him. Lawsuit? Sure. But the raid was completely wrong.
The problem is that it forces game retailers to stock games that they may not otherwise need to purchase, that they'll eventually need to sell at a loss if at all.
It's just that the GUI controls are unnecessary, and actually get in the way of full-screen viewing. So why have them? (unless you're afraid of the keyboard...)
I can tether my phone to any computer for an extra $0 a month. Gotta love T-Mobile. I even clarified it with their rep before ordering it... I'm not breaking any TOS, and I didn't have to do any jailbreaking or any kinds of hacks to the phone firmware to get it working.

You think that isn't how hiring happens now? You haven't had many jobs, have you? Networking is paramount in getting anything more than entry level.

The diaper caught it?
You take a crap because of the guy's name. The phrase wasn't in usage until he came up with his inventions.
You don't need VLC for decryption with Handbrake. You only need to install the libdvdcss2 library.

Talk to a lot of people in rural Georgia and Alabama and such, and though they're Americans they'll still tell you they lost the war.
So you send emails without subject lines all the time? Even more reason for me to be annoyed.

Monopolies play by different rules than "normal" businesses. When you have that much control, you need that much more accountability.
Any email I host will only accept mail from the current TLD's. Not that big of a deal.

There are still a ton of not-huge sites that don't redirect example.org to www.example.org. It's really annoying.
