Nvidia is a graphics card company. That IS their advantage. If they allowed people to actually use their hardware, they would sell a lot more of it. The problem is that they want to control everything with the drivers, and rather than go to work and actually make good hardware that's differentiated by more than the bits they allow to be twiddled with the drivers.
Just zero out the drive. There's nothing recoverable from that. Go ahead... zero out a drive and call up any data recovery firm in the world, see if you can get them to tell you they can likely recover the data. Hell, promise them double their normal fee if they do (double or nothing). They won't do it.
I've got a 61" TV. It doesn't look like crap by any stretch, but the difference between 720p and 1080p is just noticeable. At 40" though? I wouldn't do any more than 720. No need... you couldn't see it unless you were sitting 3' from the TV.
I personally prefer a truly level playing field - like quake or unreal tournament (or chess)- where it's just down to strategy and knowledge of the game, with everyone having the same gear.
I've never been able to put into words how I feel about playing most of the new shooters versus the classic ones. Thanks!
As soon as I can find a 3-way LED bulb, I'll buy one. I want to use my 3-way floor lamps, and I'm not going to put a 3-way CFL in there because I have a toddler who can tip it over fairly easily. Why is it apparently impossible to build a 3-way LED bulb?
Depends entirely on what kind of heat you have. If you're turning on an electric space heater, yeah, use your computer. Resistive heat is resistive heat. But gas heat is much more efficient that electric, and much less expensive per BTU in every place I've ever seen.
What matters is how responsibly you deal with it. If YOU want to keep all CFL's out of your house, go for it. I, on the other hand, will continue to use them. I have an 11 month old who's getting ready to walk, so I have incandescent bulbs in any lamp that could be tipped over, but all my ceiling and wall lights that can use CFLs have them. Really... it's about acceptable risk vs. reward. 41,059 people died on the roads in the US in 2007. That's 112 people a day. Yet I go driving almost every day to get to places I need to be. How many people die a year from mercury poisoning? Or are even sickened? I end up paying a lot less for electricity due to my CFLs, and that's a real benefit to me.
People have no concept of how to manage risk, or even what actually is dangerous.
At least Dilbert has a fast URL. It's the only one I way I read Dilbert any more, at least partially because Scott Adams is a flaming moron in his blog and I have no desire to read it. The comic still manages to be funny periodically, I think mostly because of ideas sent to him.
The number of pedophiles has not increased, at least it's unlikely it has. The number of reported crimes has, actually, for two reasons: First, due to hysteria it's getting increasingly easy to be accused and tried (and remember, being tried as a pedo already makes you one, at least in the eyes of the public. After all, if there had been no reason...). If I find a crying kid out in the street, I will DECIDEDLY NOT go out and try to help unless I can be certain that the child is somehow injured AND others have seen that I had NOTHING to do with it. It's sad, I know, but the very last thing I need is that I go out, try to help this child and be sacked by a hysteric parent thinking I tried to molest their little darling when I was only checking out why a kid was standing alone in the street crying.
I'm glad I have a kid of my own now. It makes me feel a little safer talking to children without people thinking the wrong thing, or at least in a situation like you describe being able to say "Look, I have a kid of my own. I wouldn't want anything to happen to him any more than you would to yours, and I was just making sure yours was safe and unhurt"
Or you're doing something complicated. Programming has changed since 25-line VT-100's. Sure, that's fine for "Hello World" and basic, non-GUI software. But modern software development tends to be a bit more complex and verbose.
Maybe his engine died and he drifted? Not every motor in that part of the world is in pristine condition. I'd rather not blow someone up if they actually were innocent. Especially since the pirates rarely kill people.
...you make the assumption that the pirates are technologically astute. There are very few effective countermeasures for running over something in the water in a boat. The only thing they could realistically do is use jet-boats, an impeller power with a grate filtering the water inlet. That'd be pretty robust to a net in the water.
Tossing a net in the water is a lot easier, and considering most of the crew is probably civilian, it's probably more palatable. Not everyone is perfectly ok with killing other people, even if they deserve it.
It's actually a good argument. With antilock brakes, most any moron can maintain control of their vehicle in panic-stop situations. The trade-off is that stopping distance is increased. So, sure, go without ABS if you're skilled enough to do so. You'll get some extra performance when you're racing. But if you're just driving to the grocery store in the winter? I'd hope that most of the soccer-moms on the road with me have ABS.
600 vertical pixels aren't enough to properly code with. Even really stretching it and using 8 pixels for characters and 2 for line spaces, that's only 60 lines of text full-screen. And your eyes would go crossed trying to read it.

Real crime takes actual work. Much easier to bully people who aren't intentionally doing something wrong.

Lithium Ion batteries tend to heat up when there's a load put on them.

Meh. I'm holding out for a Nook. More open, more features, same price.

I think that's called Poe's Law

You know, it strikes me that it'd be easier to hit a boat with artillery when it no longer has any power...

not I am making $10,000 a month and living the life I have always dreamed of.
Freudian?
It takes an uncommon mind to associate the word "just" with "$289.95"

Because of the engineering required for a second screen to slide out and fold and such?
Seconded. I use full brightness when it'll be washed out by ambient light, but much lower brightness in dark rooms.
Thanks. Now I have to go wash my hands after typing this. Another half-hour before I can get to bed.
