Anyone who's been to a car audio store knows what the amplifiers look like. Their entire case is one big heat sink. Plus, the use more electricity than a PC.
And anyone that knows anything about car audio would know that those "1200 WATT" amplifiers don't use nearly that amount of power (the typical 20-30 Amp fuse on the side of the amplifier is a pretty good hint). The typical PC that consumes a constant 150W or so of power has a lot more heat to deal with.
While we are drooling over obsolete hardware, how about the C64, Amiga 500, and VIC 20? Heck, I seem to remember a fanless IBM PS/2 back in the day too (no harddrive).
If you go to tools->manage addons and disable "windows genuine advantage" then you'll have no problems downloading any updates. They only fixed the javascript exploit.
That only works in Windows XP SP2. Does anyone know how to disable it for older versions of XP?
I think you would be very hard-pressed to find a 20-year-old CD player that still works, never mind works well.
The 20 year old CD players that I come accross work fine. Back in 1985, CDs and CD players were new, a CD player costed some ungodly amount of money, and thus were pretty well built. Now, try to find a 5-10 year old CD player that still works well. That can be a bit tougher. And don't get me started on DVD players that are more than about 6 months old...
With entirely electric vehicles, all emissions are produced in a limited number of places (in the hundereds, I believe). And these power plants have few space limitations, and deeper pockets. So, it makes more sense to try to clean up the emissions in a lot fewer locations.
And the best part is that if tomorrow, the fossil fuel burning power is replaced by a fusion power plant, all of those formly "displaced-emissions vehicles" instantly become "zero-emissions vehicles", with no changes to the vehicles themselves.

Do you even know what an arcology is? It's essentially a city in a very large building, including all the things you might expect in a medium sized city - housing, places to shop, grocery stores, hospitals, a police station, gyms, businesses, restaurants, movie theatres, churches, parks (on the roof), industry, a jail, etc.
As far as I know, no arcologies have been built. About the closest thing I can think of is some larger "assisted living" homes for seniors, which have their own church, convience store, food store, resaurant/cafeteria, gym, pharmacy, etc. all in one building.
Why don't you stop looking at it from the point of an investor/shareholder, and look at the company from the point of a customer? What isn't there to like about a company that has great prices, fast delivery, and free shipping?
At least our current President isn't conflicted about the meaning of "is" is.
And I'm getting really tired of the "but-but-but Clinton...!!!" arguement. What previous presidents may or may not of done is irrelevant. George W. Bush is a lousy president who stood up in front of the American people and blantly lied about Iraq being a threat, resulting in an illegal war of aggression that has killed over 1,800 Americans and countless Iraqis.
1) Simply do not sell. As long as I can make payments, I have lost nothing - it's like panicking and selling a stock early that goes up again. And eventually, housing does go up again. I live in Denver where we had an oil industry bust about twenty years ago that had people literally walking away from houses with the doors open because they could not afford them and no-one in the area could or would buy them. Yet now Denver has a thriving (some would say too thriving) market. As another poster said, people have to live somewhere and even if there is a glitch in pricing for a bit there are more and more people all the time.
Actually, that doesn't work. The house is collateral on the loan, and if the house drops in value to where it's worth significantly less than the outstanding balance on the loan, the bank will get uneasy as they see the situation as somewhat risky. Usually what the bank does at this point is demand you pay them a large sum of money so that the outstanding balance on the loan is roughly the value of the house again. So I hope you have $20k or more handy if this happens to you.
I really like the Compaq keyboards of a few years ago. I have three that I know of and they are all in use.
You mean the keyboards where half the space bar is the backspace key? Words cannot describe how much I hated those keyboards. But each to their own, I guess.
I don't see why this is a big deal. The only place I can see where you'll be affected is running an OpenGL program with its own ICD in a window. Most games are full screen, so who cares if Windows has to disable the D3D-based eye candy on the desktop you can't even see anyway?
The fact that the Toyota absolutely NAILED the American hip-hop submarket with their boxy Scion
This is getting off topic, but I thought it was Chrysler that nailed the hip-hop market with that goofy looking sedan that has the big ass grill on the front. Not that the Scion doesn't do half bad either.
Techno is a lot better than what passes for rock these days. I could probably fit all the good rock songs from 2004 on one CD, and leave enough room for a nice trance mix or two.
Also the war on Iraq was necessary. I didn't see all those protestors offering alternative solutions.
Here was my solution. Leave Iraq alone. Sure Saddam was a bad guy that gassed his own people, but he did not pose a threat to the United States (or even his neighbors), nor did he harbor terrorists. He was a bad guy, he was certainly annoying, but he was also a known and we more or less knew how to deal with him.
Eventually, we probably would have to do something about Saddam and Iraq. But in the meantime, we could of used our forces much more effectively by finishing up our work in Afganistan. Then we could do things like taking care of countries that really do pose a threat to the US like Iran and North Korea, or doing something like cleaning up terrorist nests located in our "allies" such as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
I'm seriously considering joining the non-voting horde, on the theory that the system is fixed anyway and voting just gives these people legitimacy.
If you aren't going to vote third party, don't sit at home. Instead, go and vote but abstain in the Presidental election. That way, you are showing that you care enough to go to the polls, and they can't write you off as simply being lazy. Can you imagine the message sent if a non-negligable number of ballots are blank?
Actually, you missed one thing that Macs really don't do as well as PC's - games. That is one thing you do need a Windows PC for (running them under Virtual PC isn't going to cut it, if they even would run in the first place).

Check the power led. Maybe if you had waited another 4 minutes after the article was posted you would have thought of this.
What if I didn't hook up the power LED to make my computer ninja?

Many anti-Apple fanboy's look for deficiencies where none exist. Those "battery issues" are the same "issues" faced by every recharchable battery
Most products don't have the battery sealed in them, especially when the product costs $299 or more.
and plenty of other companies sell non-easily-replacable batteries, for example Dell.
Guess what? Those products suck too, for the same reason.
The difference is...?
Nothing. Dell makes substandard laptops. Apple makes substandard laptops. If you want a good machine, get an IBM Thinkpad. Or even a Sony or Toshiba.

Keep in mind that the US uses about 20,000,000 barrels of oil each day. 300,000 is rather insignificant (only about 20 minutes worth of oil).
Why is this modded flamebait?
Because he was clearly trying to start a flame war. Hence, flamebait.

Negative cash flow is bad, m'kay?

It uses industry standard parts; CD-R, 2.5" notebook HD, and most likely a 4x 10/100 PCI NIC.
Interesting theory, but have you seen what a 4 port ethernet card goes for these days?
I wonder how many people have tried to fly a kite with camera attached, near the Whitehouse in a nearby park?
Well, if anyone's tried, they're in Cuba right now and we sure aren't going to hear about it anytime soon.

At $5/pop, just buy a house. Then the neighboring houses. Then the houses next to the neighboring houses. Hey, why not?

Oil comes from more than one place, my underesteemed chum.
I suppose you carefully choose which gas stations you patronize, making sure they only sell oil and gasoline that doesn't come from the Middle East?
