He exchanged it? I having trouble picturing the scene...
tech - So, what's wrong with it?
coworker - It just stopped working you know? I think there was a hardware failure; I tried updating the drivers...
tech (opening box) - Okay, let's take a look at it...
(bundle of electrical tape the size of a football is revealed. Only the exposed AGP plug hints at its identity.)
tech -...okay.
The plasma torch is an idea put forward as an alternative form of aerobraking for spacecraft on reentry. I think the torch is meant to deflect the superheated air from contact with the craft's surfaces, reducing the amount of heat shielding needed.
No practical use for drag reduction in atmospheric flight.
I was thinking of hooking my old 48K rubber-keyed beast to its beowulf cluster of Microdrives (via Interface One), to provide some crucial backup capacity on my company's network.
Star Wars: Rebellion was a MOO style game that was completely underrated, it looks like there are no plans to release an updated game (possibly because of the tepid reception from the new and horribly aborted Master of Orion 3?)
I can't comment on SW:R, since I've never played it; but as a long-time fan of the Master of Orion series, I can say that IMO the true heir to the all-time classic is not the spreadsheets-in-space nightmare of MOO3. Rather, check out the fantastic Galactic Civilisations.
As if the quality of ideas on offer has any bearing on what Hollywood makes.

I never go anywhere without 100 feet of rope and ten iron spikes.
And when people claim they wouldn't touch something with a ten-foot pole, I'm able to test that theory.
