1: I wish I could start a company, and then threaten that everybody had to use my product -- or else!
2: The end of the Free Internet -- what a joke. My content is free, and will remain so. Many people publish content for reasons other than ad clicks. And if this drives some of the comerical sites off the Internet, well a lot of us didn't like it when they arrived in the first place. I expect retail sites to remain because they make money by selling things. I visit them when I want to buy things. But if DoubleClick disappeared tomorrow I would not miss them at all.
trying to install Mac OS X for Intel on a Dell doesn't work... yet
Yeah but, we've got a year to figure it out. After all, these "development Intel Macs" need to be capable of running the final release operating systems as well, or they'd just turn into junk when the retail Macs become available. Steve Jobs wouldn't let that ever happen...would he?
There's prior art on a keg-bot. Specifically I refer to "How-2" by Clifford D. Simak originally printed in Galaxy magazine Nov. 1954, and reprinted in Bodyguard and 4 Other Short SF Novels from Galaxy ed. Horace L. Gold (Doubleday, Jun '60, hc).
The call center may be in India, but the company you were doing business with that outsourced it is likely here - wherever "here" is for you. While the obvious IANAL applies, if you suffer losses in the course of doing business with a company, aren't they libel and can't they be sued for not taking precautions to protect your data including through whomever they outsource it to?
Anti-virus products for Unix servers occupy a useful niche in the market not because there are many viruses that infect Unix platforms but because they help prevent these servers from hosting Windows malware.
So MS is doing all they can to not close down this route of Windows malware distribution. This benefits who?
In 3.5 years Apple will announce their switch to quantum processor. Steve Jobs will claim that this will again place Apple at the top of the performance heap.
So they're clearly reducing buyer's choices in scaling back the number of lines supported. Sounds like buyers now have the choices of Cheap (MiniMac) or Expensive (dual processor G5).
Must have run out of single-processor MBs and don't want to make more since the other reason (converting lines over to Intel manufacture) wouldn't seem likely given that the processors Apple intends to use aren't available from Intel yet.
I can't see how any of this is going to increase their marketshare any.
There are really no new "rights" - as all rights derive from the right of the individual. Intellectual property rights are a form of "property rights", which is the right of the individual to the fruits of their intellectual labor. (Which of course, an individual is free to give away).
Didn't you forget something here. The part about for a limited time.
they refused to acknowledge that people really do steal significant quantities of music/movies simply because they don't want to pay.
But is it stealing if you never would have bought it anyway. The music/movie industry would have you believe that every download is a lost sale at full retail price, yet you are not railing against this untruth from the industry.
To me, stealing is taking a tangible object. Stealing a CD from a music store has taken something of value that cost money to produce. A download by a person who would have never bought the song, or can't buy the song -- and many versions of older songs aren't yet even for sale as singles -- hasn't cost the industry a cent, yet they claim losses of billions.
There needs to be a better quality of truth on both sides of this issue.
of new rights for the music industry with precious little for users.
When will "the users" realize that they elect the politicians?
Money can buy influence, but in the end it is each "user" in that voting booth that should be throwing out those elected officials that don't respect them!
The premise of this article is garbage. X86 Linux has nothing to fear from OSX because OSX is only going to run on Apple-Intel hardware. Unless you suddenly think that Apple is going to replace Dell is the premier shipper of X86 based PCs, the market for OSX will intentionally (and stupidly) remain constrained to the small number of Apple branded boxes leaving Linux the best alternative for 90%+ of the PC market.
This industry group wants to persuade companies making antispyware programs to spare legitimate cookies
Legitimate cookies: My company's cookies. Illegitimate cookies: Any other company's cookies -- especially my competitors.
Yeah, right! This whole concept that there is such a thing as a "legitimate cookie" even exists is garbage when they are trying to sell you something you didn't Opt In for in the first place.
To defend Fair Use, you have to defend concept of the Public Domain.
To defend the concept of the Public Domain, you have to be against insane copyright extensions.
To be against insane copyright extensions you have to not take money and favors from those seeking to kill the Public Domain through insane copyright extensions.
The best way for Microsoft to stop distribution of pirate warez versions of their software is to control the software distibution network.

A geek remembers these things.
I'd say your morals are pretty suspect in this.
Actually, they're not suspect at all. They're as bad as the people you let get away with these crimes.

Big News Flash
Microsoft buys Linux and drops all support for it.
Oh wait, there wasn't any.
So MS is doing all they can to not close down this route of Windows malware distribution. This benefits who?
And you're surprised by this why?
Until now.
And at position #501, OSX running on an Intel processor. Hey, Steve promised it would be fast.

Translation of translation: No one succeeded in sneaking the Broadcast flag into the bill yet.

An interesting comparison, since is it the Democrats who typically support the Hollywood wishlist due to Hollywood's libreral largess.
And please try to restrain yourself from the obvious follow-up that they'll never have to do this because eternal copyright is just around the corner.
