It should be interesting if, in some gem of irony in a few years, a piece of fiction from the perpetual copyright period is desired by one of the large corporations and held out for. Even better would be if the estates of most of the better science fiction writers of the last century patiently waited for the movie industry to "accidentally" use material that will almost surely be derived from their works.
It's not unheard of for a Supreme Court decision to be reversed. I just wish that the founding fathers had enough foresight to have added a little bit about history being the possession of the masses or something.
1. Destroy the human race utterly leaving only their technology and creations. 2. Insert self as newly empty world ruler. 3. Populate newly empty world with beautiful androids with lasers in breasts.
The only perfect security is the same as the only perfect secret, once another person is involved it is inherently doomed.
The fact that a person doesn't vote for a particular representative in no way lowers that representative's responsibility to represent that person. There is no "my Republican President" or "my Democratic President", only THE President.
Personally, I think the idea of the two party system is driving this country to ruin. The politics of positions means that individual politicians that wish to gain more influence must play with the party line, and the party lines are more and more apart from the stated positions of the parties. Democratic shouldn't inherently mean inflated budgets based on welfare economies and pro-abortion, and Republican shouldn't always mean Bible-thumping preachers of the rich. The country is bigger than that and our politicians should be bigger than that.
As a true American I'm more afraid of the possibilities of injustice and assaults upon my freedoms by my own government than any half-savage running-for-his-life terrorist. When terrorists attack, everyone agrees and we bomb the shit out of them. When government attacks someone always asks, "shouldn't they be allowed to stamp their booted heels upon our foreheads?"
Most of the terrorists are from somewhere else. Government, on the other hand, is each and every one of us deciding what is right and what is wrong. When people choose to handwave away freedoms for any reason, they're implicitly handwaving them away from the rest of us. Personally I think that's the saddest thing ever, it makes the deaths of everyone on 9/11 meaningless.
We also lead in the "nation most capable of bombing all the other nations into oblivion" category. That used to make me feel better at night, and then I realized the facts of a least common denominator democracy.
US universities have more money than a lot of their foreign counterparts and they attract better professors accordingly no matter where they're from. The US HAS to have good universites because it's primary education system is so awful.
That's right, the legal immigrants to the US are mostly from bordering nations or countries where the US sends hordes of 18 year olds to live for a few years with no parental supervision or has in the recent past. Personally, I think this is probably a more fun way to influence nations than having our guys shoot at people. Besides, if the INS had data on Al Qaeda's hordes then we probably wouldn't be having a problem would we?
Hell, do one better: Don't buy the CD with the stupid privacy idiocy on it, wait a day, and download the songs you want from P2P networks. The sooner the major music publishers go under, the sooner one of them will be forced to figure out a workable economic model that doesn't rely on legal strongarming and gives customers what they want instead of what the major labels think they SHOULD want.
At this point, I won't buy another store cd until all of the frivolous laws wrote to support these bastards go away. I'm tired of the horse and buggy people buying congressmen to try and stop me from buying cars.
And you thought she just looked cute wearing your shirts...Now she can prevent the government from launching cruise missiles at you by wearing them too!

How long until some smartass starts using the DMCA to stifle competition in drag racing now?

You know someone has made an excellent rant when I immediately save to text and start sending out links....

Who would have thought that the name "Samantha Juggs" and the cold sores wouldn't be enough?

But if we could only convince people that having sex for the exercise was a good idea, we could have a really ...unique... gym.
