Bittorrent is anywhere, I can post a torrent link here and have 1000s of people all getting the latest and greatest(!?) version of Windows.

Also, don't forget, its now becoming routine for people to download nice cd/dvd sized ISO files :)

They didn't care when it took hundreds of hours per disk.

So it becomes 20 or 30% quicker because the client overestimates how much data is required.

There is a 100mb file that I want.
Theoretically, my client could end up downloading 130mb of blocks (worst case scenario).

You cannot create data from nothing, and so downloading only 80mb is not enough, you still need to get at least the 100mb.

This might estimate that it takes 130minutes, when the file comes in at 100minutes, the user thinks they have saved 30% of their time.

This only helps because more of the clients have a greater spread of the blocks, and so the faster clients can supply the file better.

But to me, this is a false economy, since everyone will be moving around more physical data, albeit faster.

I think thats less of a hassle, since in general buildings are static.

However, after pondering this for a little while, I think a system of continuous scan refreshing (much like the index spidering) would capture the fixed elements and also show where the dynamic portions are. This includes people, awnings and also things like traffic and other slow moving processes (building extensions or renovations).

It might actually be good to watch for things like this, and be able to sell the information to developers or the city government.
