I click something once, I might click it a thousand times. I might buy something, I might not.
I am going to make damn sure I watch the adverts carefully from now on, and I'm going to click on every single one from this click fraud company.
I am going to maliciously, and with intent click links on a website multiple times!
Let them try and stop me.
This should not be googles' fault, and google are not to blame for this.
If the advertiser on the other end doesn't like how many people are tramping through their shop and using all their bandwidth without actually purchasing anything, then they should employ their own security guard.
Unless the resolution has improved (apparently back to the old detail level!?) then the only people you would see on a beach would be mis-classified as beached whales.
Look away from slashdot for just a couple of days and try to find out exactly what you have missed.
Hell, just take your eye of the front page for a while and you will miss things. It always amazes me when I return from vacation or a short trip just how many articles I have missed, and for weeks afterwards, topic threads in the comments may refer back to things, and people will complain about dupes when I am reading a fresh new article.
On TV, we willingly accept dupes without complaint, so why bother so much about slash? A dupe is only a dupe if you spend too much time here, change the channel, go outside, skip the story:) I would much rather see interesting debate than comments about dupe.
(Note, I'm not saying anything about the classical "dupe on same front page" cockups most of us have witnessed)
The best way to compress the data is to automatically put the national security black lines over the documents now rather than in 25 years time. This way, not only will security be maintained (assuming they remove the data rather than just paint it black in a pdf), but it will take up less space.
Most released documents I have seen have most lines blacked out, so after compressing the remaining text, you could fit the entire Clinton admin documents onto a single floppy disk.
RING RINGRING RING Click "Hello, this is john from [company] we are calling to confirm you have won the prize draw you entered..." (sound of mist being deployed in the background)
Much more malicious, and also much greater chance of it occuring.
It means you like to use the web as a magazine that you read. You don't expect extra popup adverts in your favorite weekly, nor do you expect a moving image distracting you from your article.
I personally block all flash and gif animation (image.animation_mode=none) on a page, but I have never gone as far as removed the actual adverts. It has improved my browsing expecience no end, and I have clicked through to more adverts since doing this than before, mainly because the context is right (I still keep to my regularish suppliers however).
The only gripes I have with this is the flashblock ummm flashes the anim onscreen at least one frame, and the animated gifs stupidly miss out on an advert chance by essentially blanking themselves for the 1st frame. I would want flashblock to simply leave a flash anim paused by default, but leave it visible.
Nahhhhhhh, the timeframe hasn't harmed anything.
:)
I for one didn't know Mr n Mrs Smith was available yet.
After this press release, I do now.
Thank you MPAA

Stop shopoting the messenger so to speak.

Without this yobbo, you wouldn't have a job.

You mean I take my own equipment and have a picnic in the city centre?
Are we going to have open source cakes and sandwiches as well?
Then they will nuke him from orbit.
Its the only way to be sure.

Theres nothing wrong with hand-waving.
Obi-wan did ok by it.
This is Big Brother.
jspoon, you have been voted out of the Big Brother spaceship.
You have 30 seconds to go to the airlock.
Yes, client/server.
They didn't want their customers hosting servers.
They still don't.
How many home sites can stand up to a slashdotting?

When aligned, the planets will fit into a piece of sky the same size as a full moon.
Is that the low hanging moon or the smaller moon?
# Don't complain about lack of options. You've got to pick a few when you do multiple choice. Those are the breaks.
;)
Oh sorry, its not a slash poll is it
Forget a virus or worm.
Imagine the scene if you will.

Isn't that award going to go to Deep Impact.

The REAL banking page is onscreen.
Popup message box says (something like):
"MyBank Security Timeout occured. Please reenter your account details in the following screen".
OK/CANCEL
user clicks ok and mysterious screen pops over looking like their real screen and hey-presto, you've been phished!
I can quite easily see a footnote being added to the crediting system.

*Credits are only awarded for uploading a complete instance of the song to a single recipient in a single session.
Partial uploading of a song does not count towards your credit balance.
Then they will make the network inherantly dynamic and keep switching to the faster connections
And that subcontractor MUST perform the duties with the same level of skill as the electric company.
Subcontracting does not relieve you of your responsibilities.
I agree with this, but its not ironic.
