There is a restraining order in force that says "no contact". No contact on a restraining order means just that...NO contact. Just because its a "poke" doesn't mean it doesn't count. Haul her stupid ass in and make her face what ever consequences were specified in the original order.
No sympathy what so ever. The stupid deserve what they get.
Right. This is why the market has so many wonderful Android phones now.
We've been hearing about all these Android phones that are going to appear "any time now". We've been hearing that for a couple of years. And thus far at every cellphone oriented industry show the big talk is about how new Android phones did not show up in the numbers expected. There's what...3?...actually out on the market now?
VERY well said. Wish I had some mod points this week.
In business, the price just to buy the package is never the only consideration. And the price just to buy the package is a very small percentage of "total cost of ownership".
We only dislike that sort of thing when its used against us. When used the way we want, even if its the identical privacy infringing feature we used to hate, all of a sudden we like it.
Considering how they continue to attack Linux and open source, will anyone take them seriously?
Are some of you people really this fucking stupid? Of course Microsoft attacks Linux and Open Source. That is part of their competition. Just like they attack Apple. That's what businesses do. Apple, Open Source and Linux attack Microsoft back just as hard (and most of the time with just as much fud).
Its like you people expect Microsoft to produce an ad that says "Our software isn't perfect and Open Source might work better for you and save you money in the process, but hey, buy our $200 product anyway!"
I am really tempted to go open an account at 1&1 and then really pump the bandwidth just to prove how full of crap they really are. The only people who get truly unlimited service are those who never even come close to using any kind of serious bandwidth. Its not that hard to do and you don't even have to host pr0n...just run bittorrent when a popular flavor of Linux like Ubuntu, Debian, or Mandriva updates their distro and you can easily saturate a 100mbit connection.
I lease several servers for myself and clients. For business use I won't even consider a plan that does not spell out *exactly* how much bandwidth is allowed, and how much overage costs.
Big science doesn't advance without risks. I'm single, I live alone, and I don't have any children. Thus there is nothing tying me to a requirement for a return trip. A laptop, an internet connection, a Kindle, and a dog (a real dog like a beagle...no foofoo pocket dogs) is all I need. I might miss sex, but I wouldn't miss being bitched at by girlfriends.
Good news coverage is worth paying for. Unfortunately for Murdoch, with the sole exception of the Wall Street Journal, none of his holdings produce good journalism. Because with the exception of the Journal, everything covered in his TV stations or newspapers I can find in three hundred other locations on the web, in other newspapers, or on other TV stations. Because its all reworked AP stories. Good in-depth journalism died years ago, and now all we get from 99.9999999 percent of US media sources, including Murdoch's, is cookie-cutter stories.
If Murdoch really expects me to pay, then he's going to have to improve journalism at his own holdings and give me original information I can't find anywhere else. When he can do that, I'll pay (as I do for the WSJ now). Until then, not a chance in hell.
Folks, whether you like her blog or not, and whether you think the cops are over reacting or not, one thing is for sure. If she's following officers and photographing them, that sure sounds like stalking to me. I bet each and every one of you who is voicing support for her would feel differently if someone were following you around with a camera.
My dislike of the Segway stems from the ridiculous hype that was spread far and wide about the product before it actually came out. It was built up to be some fantastic device that would cure the common cold, end world hunger, prove the existence of life on Mars, get me the woman of my dreams, and just about anything else one could imagine. Then when it came out, it was nothing but a fancy-ass moped for rich people who were too lazy to walk.
The first problem here is his legal representation was a bunch of idiots. The second problem here is he admitted under oath that he did it, he did it repeatedly, he continued doing it after being warned not to, lied about it under oath, and said all this in front of the jury. And what his clown collection representation should be doing now is asking the RIAA if they could belatedly negotiate a more reasonable settlement, which is what the RIAA offered to do after the fact in the Jammie Dumbbitch case.
This case should have never gone to trial. He should have settled for a few thousand right at the start and called it a day and lesson learned.
And the community as a whole has made a mistake in two cases now. It rallies to the support of people who really did what they were accused by the RIAA of doing. Instead of finding a way to back those being attacked by the RIAA who are in fact completely innocent, everyone and their mother throws themselves behind the guilty ones. Neither of these cases was ever "fighting the good fight".
The problem is ignoring a summons is a *crime*. It is a criminal matter and not a civil matter. Yes, you may not have to worry about a fine because you don't hold any serious property. But how do you intend to get out of that jail term?
If we boycott the outlets that spread the story as news and real, we then would not be able to bitch about it on Slashdot...Slashdot was just as guilty of spreading the story as factual as anyone else.
"We reject the view that copyright owners and their licensees are required to provide consumers with perpetual access to creative works"
And I reject the view that you have any real say in the matter. If I give you my money for it, I'll crack the DRM and do anything I want with it for my own personal use. And I don't give a damn what either you, your company, or the copyright office says about that.
If ever there was a week I wish I had mod points, this is it. Your post should be modded "+10 Sounds too intelligent to have been posted on Slashdot".
You hit the part that has never failed to both sadden and amuse me. And that part is that this community seems to rally most strongly to the support of those who are blatantly guilty of what they are being prosecuted for. Besides this case, Jammie Whatshername is another perfect example. At least in this case, from what I have read so far, the dude hasn't started it out by lying under oath.
It will put the Opera name in front of millions of users who probably never heard of it
And the majority of users will simply ignore it and click on a name they've heard of. If Opera doesn't come up with some sort of educational advertising campaign, having this choice in Windows 7 won't make a damned bit of difference in the usage of their browser.

work
We do not allow filthy words like this to be used in here. :-)
For real. My first thought when I read this was "Do we have some April Fool style holiday in September now?"
...in The People's Republic of Britannia.
You've got them to last 1.5 years? I'm doing good to get 6 months to a year. What's your secret?

Damn...the one week I don't seem to have mod points. Your post should be modded "+100 one of the most useful replies ever"!
They ask if anyone would volunteer.
Hell yes! Strap a rocket to my ass and let's go!

Dammit, I was going to post that!!

15 years isn't enough. If it resulted in a fatality, the texting driver should get life (and so should a drunk driver).

One of the biggest I'd go for is proof of harm.
Would you push this just as hard in a case involving the GPL and a company ignoring it?

This is the single best post I've read on this subject ever. Its clear, correct, and to the point.
What the hell are you doing on Slashdot?! :-)
