Think about it.
How backwards is it that our laws are more restrictive about sex(something that's a part of everyones life) than they are about killing and hacking people apart?(something that we all hope NOBODY has to have in their life)
More tits, Less death
If the RFID tags hit all high price merchandise I have a feeling targeted advertising will LOVE it.
Imagine vans cruising neighborhood after neighborhood pinging the RFID tags at every house and creating a crossreferenced database of where you live and what you buy. Hell, with regular updates they can even guesstimate your rate of spending on certain products.
So what's the legal situation with doing this? There is none.. it's too new, and that means the wolves will get to it a year before the laws.
Ok let's assume a few things. 1. You're unemployed and can spend 16 hours a day reading, 365 days a year. 2. You're an above avg reader(in terms of speed) and take an avg of 3 hours per book. 3. You do not have a photographic memory
Great!
Well great if people didn't make their living and devote serious time and effort to spamming.
Anything you do, will just cause a shift to other methods.
Make it not profitable(or illegal).
That's the simple solution.
Every 15 mins I'll get/. to post a story that's at least 10 years old.
The adrenaline rush and the speed typing of "Seen it", "Old News", and "OMG slashdot is repeating news!!!!111!!" will be the most activity many of us are likely to get.:-)
Notice the qualifications for receiving the donations... Not-for-profit organization and it's to be used in "music related purposes".
Hmmmm, it's not like the Lawyers really care who gets the payoff.. they just want their share.
If they make it so computers can only run on a preset number of "trusted" operating systems... that pretty much kills any new OS development on future hardware.
Is that legal?
Modular and intelligent components with a few drones to manage the hardware and centralized contracted "experts".

16hourx365daysperyear/3hoursperbook = 1946.67 booksperyear
With 4000 books, that means even at marathon pace you could go two years without repeating a title.
Longer if you had a life.
So you should be set for a decade or so.
When you use a story written in a foreign paper about a US college...
It MAY have been reported in a US paper first.
Ok?
At first glance I thought it said "Collect" 6 billion brains...
/. was going to ask for donations.
I thought
Insightful? Not understanding that US based spam houses use foreign servers is INSIGHTFUL? Ok... God I love well informed mods.

Exactly how not needed do we want to make actual people?

It will be a while before he actually checks back.
