The average everyday user probably doesn't worry about setting stuff up or installing applications though.
In my experience people who are not computer literate will do the "everyday" things the way they are taught to, in which case the underlying operating system is irrelevant.
The real fun starts when it's a decent chunk of cash cheaper, when you are buying your PC, to have it come preinstalled with Linux.
