Most likely they used what is refered to as Gapper's tape. It is about the same size and durability as duct tape, but there are subtle differences. Gaffer's tape has more of a faberic texture and the residue won't stick on stuff after you pull it up. And it's available in hundreds of colors to match carpet, floor, stage, wall, or anything you could ever need to tape stuff to or hide imperfections on stage.

For those of you who have not heard of it, the Internet Radio Linking Project (IRLP) is a system created by David "VE7LTD" Cameron, a ham radio operator from Vancouver, British Columbia. The system uses VOIP technology to link two radios together over the internet runs entirely on linux. The first release of his software was packaged with a Red Hat 6.2 CD and most users are still running this setup. I have the original 6.2 running, and it has been rebooted once in several months. (Due to a DDOS attack on the entire subnet that the box was on. It rebooted itself and started working fine again.)

The IRLP system uses gpg for encryption and authentication to prevent rouge users from connecting and taking control of machines over the network. Several of these systems are located in remote locations and the operators maintain them over SSH. It is not likely that they will be upgraded anytime soon.

The project has moved forward since the beginning and released versions packaged with RH 7.1, 7.3, and 8.0.

What about these privately run prisons that our government is shipping inmates out to? Many of these prisons are using their inmates for labor to be hired out. Mail order catalogs will pay these prisons to have inmates answer the phones and take orders. They prisons are being paid by Uncle Sam to house the inmates, and then they get paid to use them to boot! Because the inmates are incarcerated, they don't have to be paid minimum wage and things like that. My guess is that they are being paid pennies on the dollar.
