    They are as slanted as PBS, constantly trying to explain why we need more and bigger government programs. I don't need to hear that bias. Just once I'd like to hear either the BBC or PBS present a story about why government needs to be smaller, but of course that will never happen.

    It's not like they'd ever run a story on Thomas Jefferson.

    And you'll get, essentially, the same forecast you'd get from the local media. After all, the NWS is where they get their weather info from.

    WRONG My local ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX affiliates all employ highly trained meteorologists who more often than not have won many prestigious awards and have access to the latest ACU-DOPLER 4000 weather satellites/radar nodes/whirlybirds.

    Yes let's go tear up what's left of arable land and natural habitat for our never ending thirst for energy. People will point to the desert as if it's some vast lifeless tract of land. Which is simply not the case.

    Perhaps for the top end models that holds true, but as the market for roll your own HTPC's has shown (at least in terms of cooling), there are plenty of passive heat sink options available.

    From my viewpoint the changes made in recent releases of DirectX are no small matter, to label such things as "minor shader effects" shows your ignorance of the subject. The DirectX SDK contains wonderful documentation if you are so inclined to learn.

    I'm not arguing for or against Microsoft platforms but the fact remains DirectX is currently the de facto standard in creating games. And even though it's a COM based technology, it's still kinda fun to play with.

    hey don't want real broadband... they only want to offer crappy 256kbps

    I know of no major broadband provider in my area that offers 256, believe me I've looked for my girlfriends parents. It's ridiculous here in southwestern Idaho, you simply cannot find anything at the 20 dollar point, Qwest comes close. if you have a qualifying home phone plan, but after 12 months it reverts to I think 35, cable is the same 20+6 for modem lease, and it's a 1Gb cap. I just can't understand why they are so reluctant to take over that sweet spot from the dial up days. It's not like they haven't been able to pay for their initial roll outs many times over after this many years.

    There was a blurb in an issue of Scientific American, and they found an impression bias among democrats and republicans by using the image of a man sufficiently blurred to look either surprised (or was it confused?) or angry. Democrats more often saw the confused face, republicans saw the anger.

I really upsets me that so many of the unwashed masses benefit so greatly from the fruits of scientific labors yet go through life 'blissfully' unaware as to the nature of the world, or will readily rally around any politician or talk show host that so often vehemently oppose all stances of logic and enlightenment.

    In 2000, they signed an agreement with Google, and Yahoo's search was powered by Google, in other words -- if you used Yahoo, you were using Google.

    Let us not forget Inktomi, I believe they used a few other providers during those years as well.
