Well what the author is saying is not true by my experience..
When I configure a new server with RAID, before handing over the box, I will test every single RAID 1/5/10 sets by pulling one drive out at a time for a couple of minutes then I would put it back in until the rebuild is complete.
I worked with multiple Dell PowerVault MD1000 using 15 1TB SATA drives and never have I ran into an issue of not being able to complet the rebuild because of the issue mentioned in the article.
I can tell you that drives will fail but if you have the right monitoring in place and catch when a drive fails or about to fails and with the right RAID solution in place, you can consider your data pretty safe. RAID is not a backup not 100% but chances are that a RAID solution will surly save your butt when a disk dies and you just don't have the time to rebuild / restore a box.
Can someone tell me the difference between Candle Watt and Lumen?
My friend has a 1000000 candle watt flashlight. The other day at Costco I found a 15000000 candle watt flashlight. How is this flashlight brighter?
What I find funny is why not google or even Micro$oft... Google's personalized hame page allow users to add tabs in their homepage. I heard with ie7 you can now use tabs...
At Fist I thought Blue-ray drives were not going to be compatible with standard DVD's. So I became a fan of the HD-DVD format. Now this Blue-ray drive does support DVD's . Why don't they make a Blue-ray player that's supports DVD's? I think that would probably kill HD-DVD?
So, how long do you think it'll be before decedents of these 'somehow' hit the exotic pet trade.
Already done... GlowFish.

I don't understand in the article why you would want to replace your nickel-metal hydride battery for lead acid. It it just $$$ ?
I understand the swap for lithium-ion since it's more efficient, but why not just add some extra nickel-metal hydride batteries?
Yes, Sun offers AMD Opteron based servers...
I was looking for an Opteron based server last week. Sun has to offer a 8 cpu system.
The Opteron is real dual core processor and for some applications this will make a difference.
I am looking forward for the quad core CPU.

yes i was also getting this. It's nothing to worry about if you're not using windows. It's the IIS WebDAV exploit.
