    Maybe Ubuntu should prompt you you to go find the case then...

    In Mac OS 7.5 - 8.5, you could get easter eggs by typing the text "secret about box" into any text editor that supported drag & drop and text clippings, selecting the text and dragging it to the desktop. In one OS, it would start a "brick-out" type game with the developer's names.

    I love Virtual Appliances. But HOWTOS are still necessary because I, for one, always question the security/authenticity of 3rd party VMware images. I use them to eval software and, if I like it, create my own appliance so I have full control and know there are no rootkits/backdoors installed...

    FWIW Many years ago a friend of mine dropped my digital camera into the ocean, when I handed it to her to hold while I exited a kayak. (She replaced the camera and the card inside). The card inside, a 256MB CF card, continued to work for almost 2 years after that. I never trusted it and only used it for things I didn't care about, expecting it to die at any moment... but it held out for longer than expected. And that was with salt water...

    Agreed. I own "gitlinfamily.com" and often people would get tripped up by that name when I would tell it to them. I thought "gitlin.name" would be better... but in fact, the ".name" confuses people a hell of a lot more.

    Very well put. I too have Netflix and wouldn't mind paying more, but not a ridiculous amount more! I use about 75GB/mo, and I feel I already pay an appropriate amount for that. Create lower, cheaper plans rather than devaluing what's already in place!

    Well crap! I'm not too far from Greensboro, NC -- I'm outside RTP. And in February, a short month, I used a total of over 75GB of bandwidth. Mostly netflix streaming. That's probably exactly what TWC is trying to prevent. What are my other options?

    I'm not arguing with you -- what you said is very plausible and I can see that happening. It would be incredibly stupid... which is why I can see it happening! Javascript is javascript, and open standard. If boxee wanted to limit their content specifically to web browsers they should use a browser plugin. Or browser detection with JavaScript.

    Even still, if they're using javascript to decode the HTML, they're not really protecting themselves. Your app can just run their javascript and still work perfectly.
