I installed non-apple RAM and when the RAM was bad, I was in vendor hell where my AppleCare wouldn't cover the RAM and in fact didn't even find that was the problem. getting the RAM from Apple more expensive but it's the safest way to go because then it's covered under AppleCare.
I agree 100%. They're still on my "On Notice" list. It will take a lot for them to recover from their wiretapping cooperation. That really says a lot more about how they feel about their customers...
RIght because we all have a flight or fight response to most email we send... (sarcasm).
Actually the adrenaline would be triggered *after* you realize you just made a mistake.
All the filesystem can normally promise in the event of a crash is that the metadata will describe a valid filesystem somewhere between the last returned synchronization call and the state at the event of the crash. If you need more than that -- and you really, probably don't -- you have to do special things, such as running an OS that never, ever, ever crashes and putting a special capacitor in the system so the OS can flush everything to disk before the computer loses power in an outage.
What about ZFS? Doesn't ZFS have a bunch of checksumming and hardware failure tolerance functionality which you "probably need"?
I know that some PDFs that I've come across will only open in Adobe Reader. I'm sure the data is in there, but the only way I've found to get it out is via Adobe's Reader. PDFs with forms, for example, don't open with OS X's Preview.App. Some PDFs I've found won't open on Linux at all.
Open a PDF with Adobe reader. Print. Under "Outout Options" in the Print Dialog Box, click "Output as file" and choose "PostScript" from the type menu. Adobe won't stop you and Preview.App converts the.ps file back to a.pdf.
And with the price of the Mac Mini, it's a great way for Unix/Linux developers to test ports of their software to Darwin/OS X, or a great way to learn Cocoa or Mac programming in general.
I bet if government ran the phone companies and telecom, we could get service for pennies on the dollar.
Yeah, but what would that service be like? Come on, we're talking about the government here! I don't trust the government to develop innovative features!
Besides, it's competition that drives successful business. If there's three or four large companies vying for customers, then they're all going to try and top the others, by offering better service, higher quality, more features, etc. It can be argued that this competition drives a large number of the innovations in technology. If the government handled all the phone service, they wouldn't care if we (the consumer) were satisfied or not -- they're just collect their money.
Now I am far from a lawyer, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that if Microsoft successfully patented IPv6, then they could demand that they get compensated for any implementation of ipv6. Which means that to use ipv6 under Linux, for example, you'd need to play royalties to Microsoft.
Wouldn't Microsoft like that? People who choose Free Software still have to pay Microsoft for the right to use it...
I must say terrible moderation. Maybe funny, but certainly not insightful.
Not to shoot myself in the foot, but I would have to agree. I was not trying to be insightful, I was trying to be funny. This really was a typical "bash windows" comment.
And I do agree with the parent -- the worst was Windows ME! Windows 95 isn't so much "broken" as it is now just really, really old...
Nintendo's latest handheld games device, the DS, also comes with a version of wi-fi built-in, and Mr Iwata said Nintendo will offer a free net connection service to DS owners, enabling them to play games against each other at no charge.
I have to say, nice choice on where to ask that question! I can't think of anywhere where correct grammar is more highly valued than /. :-)

Well then like others said -- you don't want googlebot to index you, use a robots.txt file!
Are you referring to the traffic Googlebot generates?
I know, I don't understand their complaint at all. Google is driving traffic to their sites. How is that a bad thing?
Or, if there isn't a coffee shop nearby, try a burger joint. Walk in with the kitten and loudly ask, "I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER?"
I agree 100%. They're still on my "On Notice" list. It will take a lot for them to recover from their wiretapping cooperation. That really says a lot more about how they feel about their customers...
Yeah because there's no auto loans in this economy!

Yer stuck in the middle of the intersection. Photo taken of you in intersection. No indication of velocity.
Where I am, the cameras also record a video which you can then watch online...
HELP!!! That bad man touched my special pixel!
That's hysterical. It's also one hell of an ethernet cable to support the tablet "dangling" off it... :-)
You've got be kidding about running four guest vms on your laptop unless you are talking about running them one at a time.
I also run at least 2 VMs on my 2.8GHz laptop with 2GB of RAM. I'd be able to run 3 or 4 if I had more RAM. So I don't see why he's got to be kidding.

For whatever reason, though, there are always the fucktards who decide they'll mod up the same God damned garbage they've seen other people mod up.
Maybe because they liked the "God dammned garbage"?
Just because you're tired of the jokes and didn't find something funny doesn't mean someone else might not...

...doesn't that mean broken?

Well, if it runs Linux, then it can run Bochs... And then Bochs could run Doom3...
That would be pretty damn slow though! Doom3 in slow-motion!
You Don't. Just disable all the fans and, hey, who cares about a little extra heat?
Then things will run really quiet... that is, until the smoke detectors start going off...
