  1. Re:What changing your name does to you on Power Laws, Weblogs, and Your Given Name · · Score: 1

Unfortunately, IIRC, John Cougar was forced by his label to use that name. He hated it but it was supposed to be more sellable. In later albums, you notice the name became John Cougar MELLENCAMP, then changed altogether to John Mellencamp when he became a big enough star to dictate back to the label.

  2. Here's Your Warning... on Symantec Claims They Knew About Slammer In Advance · · Score: 1

I know about something in advance. Sometime in the near future there will be a DOS attack on the Internet root name servers. The entire internet will be down, your hard drive will be crashed, your hair dryer will stop working, and the water in your home will turn to blood. This will happen! Prepare. You have been warned. This information was released to the public, in advance of the attack, under the protection of the GPL. BTW - The Man knows about this too!

  3. Prayer For The Astronauts on Space Shuttle Columbia Breaks Up Over Texas · · Score: 1

Momma, I've got two strong hands.
And they're fine as far as hands go
I can shoulder the future, I can face the wind
For the dream that I must follow
It's a dream that can kill with its beauty
It's a hurt that can heal with its pain
And with all of these miles that lie before me
I may never get home again

But I'll carry the songs I learned when we were kids
I'll carry the scars of generations gone by
I'll pray for you always, and I promise you this
I'll carry on, I'll carry on

I kissed the earth on my daddy's grave
Said goodbye to my brave young companions
But when they hoist that sail I know my heart will break
As bright and as fine as the morning
I don't know where this road will take me
But they say there's a place there for a man
And I'm only afraid that my dreams may betray me
And I'll never get home again

But I'll carry the songs I learned when we were kids
And I'll carry the scars of generations gone by
I'll pray for you always, and I promise you this
I'll carry on, I'll carry on

And oh, I can shoulder the future, I can brave the wind
Oh, we go on, we go on, but we never get home again

So I'll carry the songs I learned when we were kids
I'll carry the scars of generations gone by
I'll pray for you always, and I promise you this
I'll carry on, I'll carry on

Is it any wonder that IT is consistently faulted for having poor communications skills? Reading this book will not change the fundamental problem.

Just don't eat one of the little buggers that's been inserted into your Big Mac. You would be trackable for at least that day (or so, depends on your cycle). Looks like EMP is the way to go. Anyone know where I can pick up a personal unit?

  7. Theft? Car Wash? on Low Profile Satellite TV Antennas for Vehicles · · Score: 1

It's enough trouble to keep the $500.00 radio in the Jeep from getting stolen (much less my Jeep itself!). How am I gonna keep this $2000.00 unit from getting lifted the first time I leave my SUV in the parking garage overnight?

Further, what will going through the automatic car wash do to this unit? Scrape it right off? Clean up the signal a little?

Wake me when they build the unit into the car or inside the car.

Until Micro$oft bundles WMP in with their new version of MSLinux we have a choice. Windows users have a choice too, but with WMP bundled right in it's harder for the masses to recognize that they need a change.

  10. Microsoft In Linux Space on Windows Media Player 9 · · Score: 1

In general, DRM issues aside on this question, I would encourage Microsoft to be a player in the Linux software space. However, they will have to unlearn so many of their common mistakes before their products will be accepted. To wit, spying on end-user usage patterns, enforcing DRM, and charging for software.

As Linux users, we could benefit from having a major software manufacturer creating standardized applications. However, Micro$oft would likely be hurting their OS business, so I wouldn't expect any major apps like Office to be forthcoming.

And them student's was dumb, too! Couldn't find the 30th decimal place of Pi without a calculator. Heck, they wouldn't know i if it smacked 'em in the face!
