I consider donating money and my children's outgrown clothing to the Salvation Army as contributing; mandatory taking of money to benefit government approved social agendas I consider state-sponsered theft. I'm sorry, but laws and the legal system do nothing to protect someone from being killed by someone else. The best they do is punish someone after the deed has happened. If you want protection from other people stealing your possesions and taking your life and liberties is to arm yourself and protect yourself. For the most bang for your buck I would recommend a Remington 870 loaded with 00 2-3/4" 9 pellet buckshot. Mid to large caliber revolvers are also good choices (really any decent caliber weapon you feel comfortable with and can shoot quickly and accurately under stress is the best form of self-protection).
This guy is a U.S. Senator. Not just that, but probably one of the most well-known senators (love him or hate him).
Not to nitpick, but I think that most Americans wouldn't know Ted Kennedy if they saw him (especially if you picked someone who didn't live on the East Coast). If you put Fat Ted, James Traficant and Boss Hog in a police lineup and pulled someone off the street and asked them to pick which one was Ted Kennedy, my bet would be most people would pick the one they vaguely recognize (hint: Boss Hog).
Well, if the U.S. can spend the repressive Soviet regime into collapse, why can't the U.S. spend the repressive U.S. regime into collapse? Worked before, it will work again.

No, it's Guido now. They digitally removed the green alien guy and inserted James Gandolfini in his place.
Integrating hockey training programs between the two nations has borne superior results. It's great to see people work together to increase the quality of international athletics.
I whole-heartedly agree. Sports are going world-wide and best-of-breed. One just has to look at the major sports leagues in the U.S.
The NBA is getting more and more international players and these olympics are proving that non-U.S. born players have greatly improved at the game (which is also funny because the U.S. team is being coached by Larry Brown, a guy who demands defense, team-work and passing and had a Detroit Pistons team with these skills win a NBA championship, and the so called 'Dream Team' is getting beat by teams superior at passing, defense and teamwork). Major League baseball has loads of players from Latin America and is starting to see more and more Japanese players. The NHL, while previously being dominated by Canadians, is a blend of North American, European and Russian players now. I guess the exception is football (futball Americano). Discounting the little watched NFL Europe, I guess this sport just doesn't have a large worldwide following.
And these are just the sports that I'm familiar with being a U.S. citizen. I have seen in the news about some U.S. soccer players going to play in European leagues and with the NHL lockout looming, pro hockey players have been signing contracts to play in the European and Russian leagues. This also leaves out lots of sports I have no exposure to. Maybe someone else can comment on the state of players in soccer (or if you prefer football), rugby, cricket or whatever leagues.
All in all, I'm in favor of expanding previously local sports to the international stage. It only improves the entertainment value of the game by raising the level of competition. How long will it be until sports leagues include teams from distant countries or at least play them in some kind of play-off format. Maybe we eventually will truly have world champions.

We go from the BATF shooting unnarmed people and burning down buildings to the ole' Ashcroft putting suspects in black hole prisons. It sickens me that only Big Party fanboys or lackeys have any real say in the political process and if you try to judge the issues and politicians individually on their own merits then you are ostracized from the political process. Maybe we should just stop the whole election process and just let Rush Limbaugh decide half the candidates to win and Al Franken decide the other half. Then we could be assured that both the House and Senate are evenly split and all they would do is argue and bicker and not get anything done. And it would save a lot of money and time and spare the TV gawkers from complaining about all the political commercials and go back to deciding if we want a king or president of beers.
It all reminds me of the book "Friendly Fascism: The New Face of Power in America" by Bertram Gross. The industrial/techno group Consolidated also had a pretty nifty tune by the same name with audio rips from the movie They Live. Even after 20 years this book is relevant, especially if you can throw out Gross' socialist view of where we should be going and just focus on his view of where we are today and where we have come from. While Republicans cry out about Big Government and Democrats fume about Big Business, Gross points out, correctly in my opinion, that Big Brother and Big Business are more than happy to live with one another, to the point that it's hard to distinguish where one ends and the other begins. With the 'approved' protest zones taking away the soap box, a certainty of party lackey #1 or #2 being elected in November taking away the ballot box and the trouncing of the 2nd amendment taking away the ammo box, what else is left? Now we just need our new intelligence czar to be the next J. Edgar Hoover. Having so much fun, what else do you need?
I also saw a couple of girls competing for Russia in synchronized diving that lived and trained in Texas. Not to mention all the world basketball players that live in the US and play in the NBA. Same thing could be said for hockey players in the winter Olympics, though their are still a few NHL teams left in Canada.

If city planners would really look at problems with urban flight they would see that this would be the number one problem that drives away the middle-class families they try so hard to get to stay. In cities it seems like the poor students get piled into the public schools while the well-to-do families can afford private schools. The middle-class has two options for a good education for their children, pay taxes for public school and tuition for private school or move the suburbs and only pay taxes for public schools.
Just produce a nice diesel vehicle with an in-car Atkins Approved (tm) liposuction machine with a direct feed to the fuel tank and I think you would stand to be at least as popular as Jared from Subway.
Well, as an urban planner you should know the reason that most middle to upper-middle class are flocking away from cities are the public school systems. There are lots of myths and ever more truths about how awful the public school systems are in the inner-cities. The choices are either move to the suburbs or pay for private schooling, and most parents choose to spend the money on the bigger, newer house and get the schooling for free (not counting property taxes, but at least in the suburbs the taxes you pay are used for the public schools your kids are attending, not the case for a private school in the city). If city governments would quit taking the easy road of throwing more money at the schools and see that the real problem is lack of parent involvement. If city councils or schoolboards could make changes so big city public schools have good repution (and no, it's not No Child Left Behind and standardized tests), I'm sure there would be much less urban flight.
