" and until that day I am more than happy to keep my patients in the dark about it."
It is already "that day" for ulcers, and it is beginning to be "that day" for anxiety. I'd like to see just how open-minded you are when confronted with the simple fact that our minds are governed by some magical spiritual force that we can never understand. The reality is that we are who we are because of the types and amounts of chemicals present, and how they interact in our bodies. Saying that "it is because of your childhood" is just as nonsensical as saying "it isn't your fault, it's the chemicals". The only acceptable response is just "it's the chemicals." And whether the patient does something about or not, chemicals are never a cop-out, because they make you who you are.
"The patient should understand that their problem stems from within themselves, not from generations of malignant genes."
I smell job insecurity. This is the same nonsenical garbage that kept us in the dark about ulcers. Say Goodbye to the Miss Cleo-type diagnoses of, "Why yes, they're caused by your stressful life. You need to stop feeling so anxious all the time. It stems from your childhood oedipus complex", and Hello to actual SCIENCE, "Why yes, it is caused by some bacteria in your stomach causing the overproduction of stomach acid. Take this pill and go away... No, I don't care about your childhood."
"The problem that I have had with Wikipedia is that in editing articles on which I am a recognized expert, I have had my edits and entries entirely removed by others who "feel" that these edits were somehow inappropriate, even when I referenced those entries along with results from peer reviewed journals."
All you have to do to fix this problem is take the problem to the discussion page, or the talk page of the user who keeps reverting you. Simple enough. If they persist, get an administrator to help.
As dangerous as it is to trust unverified information, it can be even more dangerous to trust information which has been "verified" by "experts" (especially if it's information from your 1966 set of EB's)
Sure, Wikipedia probably contains more errors than EB, but it also contains many more articles. It would be interesting to know how these ratios compare.
Well said! The sooner we accept that we are no different from plants or animals (ie: just a bunch of chemical reactions), the sooner we'll start doing real science.
What exactly is "stress", and why is is still being used as an explanation in the medical establishment. This sounds less like science and more like voodoo.
(apologies to any voodoo priests in the audience)
1. Read article. 2. Don't get answers to questions. 3. Don't be willing to investigate further into the matter. 4. Don't know anything about the article's topic. 5. Don't want to look like an idiot on Slashdot. 6. Call bullshit to save face.
Well that was more the result of the first 2 movies sucking so badly. Once people heard that that dumbass gets hacked to bits, they rushed out and cheered.
The phrase "worst natural disaster in history" is often stated by those who have little actual knowledge of history. It would appear that this case is no different.

1/3 = 0.333... 2/3 = 1/3 + 1/3 = 0.666... 1 = 3/3 = 2/3 + 1/3 = 0.999...
" Actually, "over the top" flights are the standard procedure for the suggested New York to Tokyo and similar flights."
Well, they'd have to be in order to save fuel. The over-the-top route is much shorter than following a line of latitude.
Wait, now numbers can be multiplied by themselves??? What a wild, fantastic world we live in!!!
Thank you Einstein for making such a marvelous discovery!!!
I'm still iffy about the name.. "square"? Is this geometry or astrologics? Get it straight, please.
"did you just say that all philosophical arguments are inherently meaningless? If so, I really must respectfully disagree."
Why is that? Do you have any rationale behind it, or just the good old "we should be working for a better tomorrow" nonsense?
Thank you Captain Dupevious.

Actually, it was Akira Kurosawa who did all the redefining. George Lucas simply rode in on his coat-tails.
( The Hidden Fortress )
The steps to calling bullshit:
1. Read article.
2. Don't get answers to questions.
3. Don't be willing to investigate further into the matter.
4. Don't know anything about the article's topic.
5. Don't want to look like an idiot on Slashdot.
6. Call bullshit to save face.
Well done.
Ohio is always fucking up society and the future in one way or another...

"Get it now?" I think so... but $380M is a lot of money! Why are they complaining about it???
Way to counter your misunderstanding of sarcasm with more sarcasm. Just brilliant.
"Wow, it couldn't be that people were sick and tired..."
It starts with an s, ends in an m, and rhymes with sarcasm. Look it up sometime.
"Won't someone PLEASE think of the film execs!?!?"
Try reading a book.

Nuff said.
This is ridiculous. Surely the stockholders can't think highly of this incident.
"A little Canuck assistance to test 'what you heard'."
And there you have it folks, the largest foreign relations incident in the history of Canada.
We only used them once or twice in a couple classes when I was an undergrad. Are they really used that often?
