You could link several via epia's in a cluster for cheaper than 1400. At least two I would imagine. I agree completely with the other poster who suggested this idea.
I'm sure you could even make a couple fit into a standard case (bought without a power supply).
If I saw someone boarding with this I would probably be so shocked I would ski right into the side of the mountian.
I totally agree with you though, the helmet manufacturers need to make this for boarders. It is just that freaking cool. Talk about making a helmet that people will wear.
I agree, it is a tiny bit silly. But it is definately enjoyable to watch. I think this is why they spent so little time explaining gunkata, because they knew that the viewer was going to have to suspend disbelief to enjoy it.
It was not all that hard to do, as the movie had several other strengths in plot and overall meaning. Especially good for those that liked Orwell's 1984 or A.H.'s "Brave New World"
Have you seen equillibrium? That movie has some great action shots while sticking to a very relevant plot about the prices people are willing to pay to make society work, and the consequences of those decisions.
This movie has something called gunkata, which is sort of a martial arts around guns. You'll like it, trust me. This is the first movie since the first Matrix (not sure which came out first) to spark my interest to that level. Terminator 3 was nice, but having watched Matrix and Equillibrium it was not as powerful.
That sucks, good point though. I wonder how hidden the interface to the Cg hardware is on the nvidia card.
Perhaps nvidia would be willing to release specs on this to open source developers? I dont know how closely this is tied into their proprietary graphics algorithms they want to keep secret from competitors.
One thing that would interest me is the development of improvements to the mesaGL drivers for linux that would utilize Cg programs running on an nvidia card to compute some graphics calculations.
I know this does not take advantage of the cards built in capabilities for 3d, but it would allow for the creation of a better GPL'ed driver for the nvidia geforce, one suitable for distribution with GPL'ed kernels. The user could at a later point to decide to switch to the closed source driver if they want to go even faster, but at least the default driver that comes with a distribution wouldnt be so crappy.
What OS are you using. A 2.6 kernel screams with performance, and 2.4.24 is running beautifully on some of my systems.
The only thing that interests me about Brook is that it may allow for more efficient cryptography operations, if the processors it runs on are very good at running calculations in parallel. I would love to see something like this become a cheaper alternative to dedicated hardware encryption accelerator cards, because Graphics Cards benifit from an economy of scale that encryption accelerators do not, and thus are much cheaper.
I seriously wish that LaTeX was taught to more students as undergrads. It's not THAT hard, and I am seriously tired of the nightmare that is created by the many different versions of microsoft word used by students, not to mention powerpoint.
People can say that having to learn LaTeX is a distraction, but I would call the percentage of time students spend screwing around with fonts and tables in Word to be even more so. Not to mention that most schools give students unix shell accounts and 90% of the work involved with LaTeX could be solved by giving the students a template and a shell script.
The only thing I like about the MS Office suite is Excel, for me it tends to work exactly the way I expect it to, although it has problems between versions as well. I may also look into Openoffice for this eventually, since I hear you can use python with it.
I like your meaning, but the language (fucking) doesnt improve your delivery. This is not intended as an insult, but a suggestion.
It does take an act of will to write good software. Too many times you will be pressured to take shortcuts to make deadlines. When this happens your ass is on the line when the product has problems later.
This is why free software in the long term can be far more reliable than proprietary software. Because the fundamental motivation behind it's creation was to meet a goal, not a ship date. And with free software it is possible for a company that depends on that software to maintain an in house department dedicated to it's maintenence. Even if it's just a two man/woman department within one of these large organizations.
I agree with you. IT training is way over advertised. The TV commercials and radio spots make it sound like it will be simple to get a job, while in reality these schools were created at a time when the industry was booming, and if they dont keep enrollment up, they will have to close up shop.
I'm a current resident of florida, and a proud owner of Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City. I never once felt the desire to carry out any acts of violence at a particular ethnic group after playing the GTA series.
What is so special about that game is that it makes fun of EVERYONE equally, there is no one safe from the dark humor of the game's authors.
I think in Florida you will find an extremly large difference of opinion depending on the age group, and between Orlando / Tampa / Miami.
A lot of the younger people (20-30) like myself moved from out of state to Orlando and find it to be a modern and happy place to live. I have no idea who would want to move to Tampa or Miami though. I can tell you this, in Orlando a VERY high percentage of the people I know in my age group play Grand Theft Auto.
Long live Rockstar, i really dont even think they should start pulling out one liners like the one the Miami people had issue with, if they do that they are going to open themself up to a storm of other groups asking similar things.
Being a relativly passive nerd type (but one that can still converse with others) I benifit from the unusual situation of being married to a very awesome and talented woman who is literally an AMAZING business person. My wife makes a hobby of manipulating/negotiating her way through all sorts of situations like our cell phone problem with T-Mobile. She doesnt work as many hours as I do, but the amount of money she has saved our family easily equals what I make.
A nerd married to a business major is an unstoppable combination. I highly reccomend to any like minded slashdot readers to look for someone as opposite to yourself as possible for a wife/husband, because the differences combine to make a unit more powerful than the parts.
Were you with voicestream before when they were bought out by T-Mobile?
When it was voicestream the customer service was horrible, now it seems to have risen to a higher level of quality by comparison.
Now if i could just find a cell phone that can survive for more than a year. The most recent nokia (free) that t-mobile gave me only lasted for about a year before having random shutoff problems. One can argue that free phones would suck in general, but even the motorola t193 that i paid for sucked, so now i just stick with the free phones.
When I went into t-mobile (retail store) to replace a lost phone they said they were doing upgrades for 20$, with no need for contract extension (I wonder if this is for people who have been with them for a long time).
I was in a contract, and have been renewing the same contract for about 4 years, paying almost $3000 to the carrier (we have a few phones). When i had a problem with my phone and it was not resolved to my satisfaction my wife threatened to cancel our contract right there (paying the termination fee), and they gave me a new phone and refunded the upgrade costs.
Beforehand they would have said, if you cancel your contract you will have to change your number.
Are they still having those problems with the bright white spot on the center of the LCD displays on apple powerbooks? I was watching the laptop in the seat in front of me in class today and that bright spot looked painful.
The school computer store where I go to school is having to find ways to dump their single processor G5's because of the recent price drop in dual processor 1.8's.
I think apple might have to buy back some stock or give discounts to retailers. It's pretty vicious to drop down a system that completely obsolete's the retailers stock so soon. Vicious to the retailers at least:).
I want a G5, but i dont have a place to put it. My wife has officially limited the number of computers to 5.

Outsource the shooting to another country so the consultant cant be prosecuted? (joking)

They are actually more like guidelines than actual rules.
Ah we pirates must live and die by the code.

I cant say I would ever run Lindows, but it definately raises my impression of them that they are continuing to support reiserfs.
This is an example of how a corporation can benifit from OSS and share that benifit by contributing back to OSS developers.

Arent several cryptography operations related to matrix manipulation?

We usually only renew when we want new phones, in between it runs month to month.
I have been fairly happy with t-mobile. If i was forced to renew and offered a concession, i would probably take it.
Once you climb up the chain of customer service (if you have a complaint) they are usually more than willing to work with you.

Damn straight. There is no other way to test out a box before purchase.
