Not everyone needs the absolutely fastest blazing performance possible. The Xserve offers very good performance for it's price range. A 2.5 TB SCSI 160 solution would cost significantly more than 11K.
In the feedback article it says they are only looking at the monthly report that averages under 1 GB per day. This means you would have to dl more than 1 GB per day for the whole month to violate the limit. I really can't see anyone complaining over that. It is perfectly reasonable.
No you cannot use a packet sniffer. I'm sure MIT has made this impossible. Here at Georgia Tech OIT encrypts all packets by destination MAC address so only the intended recipient can view them.
Sorry but you are clueless. The shuttle will be back in operation MUCH earlier than 3 years. Senior space experts and NASA people have been all over the news saying this. There will be a brief downtime for the investigation, that is all.
They dont need to launch a shuttle, the station has an escape capsule they astronauts to return to Earth. And the space prog is certainly not dead. It will be down for a few months, but it WILL continue.
WTF? LMAO!!! You are posting in a thread about brand new dual 1.42 ghz powermacs complaining about why you have problems on 6 year old machines. I think its time to upgrade.
WTF? He does not, he only supports efforts to stop child pornography. There is a huge difference. He explains the dif here: http://www.cdt.org/speech/copa/981013lemley_lessig.html
Why don't you go to billgatesisgodandiamhisservant.slashdot.com
As for the rest of it, I'm not even going to waste my time coming down to your level to explain myself any further.
Okay well if you had watched the last 4 keynotes (which you obviously didn't) you would agree they have tremendous vision. I would also say your assertion they are too small a company to affect the industry or create standards is completely absurd. Hello!!! (Wi-Fi, 802.11g, Firewire, Firewire 2, DVD-R, Quicktime, digital hub apps, etc.) All Apple inventions or firsts that led the industry and have since made a lasting impact. You don't like there computers, fine. Please don't denegrate Slashdot again with your profound ignorance.
Okay well this is not meant to flame you but, any idiot knows you can turn it off if you don't like it. And even if you don't know how, there are apps willing to do it for you (check VT).
What's not elaborated on here is why many graphics pros choose the mac. It isn't for raw speed, but because they prefer the development environment the mac gives them over Windows. Even if something is faster on the latest cutting edge PC, if it is harder for the user to get what he needs done then it makes no difference. As a user of both OS X and Windows I can attest to this. The fastest PCs have been faster than their mac counterparts for a while now for some things. But I don't really care about that. OS X improves my workflow so much that it probably evens out in the end. To make a car analogy, do I have to buy a Ferrari just because its faster? I think I'll stick with my Rolls Royce.

IMO that is not comparable. Dual 1 Ghz G4s toast a P3 900.
It is sad that we lost farscape, but I will watch as long as it has Stargate.
Everything is switched. So there is that plus the encryption.

Lol, that turbo button was the funniest thing.

"entry-level pricing has dropped" Actually all the prices have dropped.
At last, I hope it was worth the wait. I will definitely be getting this. I was completely addicted to MOO II for the longest time.

Second that. But I would still prefer Steve.
I totally agree. That would be the best thing to ever happen to America.
Look a little closer. Do we look miserable? Steve better plug OS X in his State of the Union. :)
