  1. Re:hrm... on Microsoft, zlib, and Security Flaws · · Score: 2, Interesting

Of course some ./er's will take the opportunity to bash Microsoft but the article itself isn't.
The zlib library vulernabilty and how *nix based systems are affected has
    already been discussed on slashdot.

This Cnet article references the previous Cnet article on the subject which speculated that since zlib is a programming library that could be used across platforms that other OS's application programs may be affected as well.

I don't see this article as Microsoft bashing. It just adds a new slant to the previous article and confirms that *nix systems aren't the only ones affected.

This is important information for those Microsoft admins out there who may not care about last weeks headline "Flaw Leaves Linux Computers Vulnerable". Maybe now they'll be keeping their eyes open for patches of their affected software

I have to agree with your second point.

    2. Futurama viewers are not "average enough" to become Nielson viewing households. College students and Slashdot readers aren't "average" citizens.

We all know that ./ readers record their favorite shows on their (pick your favorite PVR) and then skip through all the commercials!
That's all the Fox execs care about in the first place.
I seriously doubt that a letter writing campaign by the likes of the slashdot community will have any impact whatsoever.

Maybe all the letter writers should promise to not only watch the show, but all the commercials as well. Fox could verify this trend with Tivo et al and could at least say to their advertisers "We may not have the largest market share, but they are all very captive commercial watchers!"

    Heh.. yeah that'll happen.

If Katz had posted the original email it would have lent a little more credibility to this story. I agree that certain statements sound a little fishy to me. However, I do believe that Internet use actually has increased in Afghanistan since the rousting of the Taliban began. About this same time of day two weeks ago,
I checked the number of users from Afghanistan who were using Audiogalaxy. There were TWO. Today (as of this moment) there are ONE HUNDRED TWENTY THREE. Allow for some errors here. They may not all truly be from Afghanistan but I'd bet that a good portion of them are. It certainly sounds like an increase.
