I don't think this has anything to do with gaining loyalty from kids from day one. Intel has helped fund at least one school in New Mexico, as well as offer programs to get students into IT even going so far as offering an associates (or equivalent) degree to help add jobs to the community (2nd poorest state in the US).
Now Microsoft wants to do something for kids that might not have access to everything that other schools can offer, and you want to blast them for it? What about Gates donatations to kids in Africa and other places where there is no way they can afford his products.
All SUN, and Linux OS distributions will now be required to have Microsoft Windows components built
directly into the kernel. The reason for this is in retaliation for Java being forced into the windows world.
For all the java people out there, i'm sorry but this is ridiculous if Microsoft doesn't want to put the java vm into their OS that is THEIR decision. It is their OS, no matter how bad it sucks.
The only relevance I can see from this short message is if its advancing linux is some form. Has this been done using a "payload" that runs Windows? Or is this just another excuse to say that linux is going to rule the world someday?
i'm surprised that more companies that make distributions of linux have not had this problem. Open Source in itself is not a great business model, being free and all, and you can only make so much money off of cd's.
Anyone have any idea how the other companies are making it in a microsoft dominated world?
I know RedHat has one of the more expensive certification exams, but other than that i'm not sure how any of these companies make it.
wow now even hacker's get their own books when they get famous. Seems to me that this will be just another security book saying the exact same thing as the other 200000 of them already in circulation.
It's obvious that the open source development model and Linux is going to be the dominating force in computing.
How is that obvious? It isn't currently, and linux/open source has not made any major effort to become the dominant force. Right now the dominant model is microsoft, and hell even Macs are better off than linux and open source, and due to usability issues linux is going to have a hard time for years to come.
Lawrence Wasden Attorney General of IDADHO
Its hard to take the Attorney General from IDADHO seriously since the state doesn't exist.

this is just another example of a big company going after a free service that is actually helping them.
oh wait, they are non-profit. well for a non-profit organization PCI-SIG sure isn't very appreciative of people who help them.
let this be a lesson to all geeks, don't help anyone all they are going to do is stab you in the back as soon as they get the chance.
