As for High Definition in regard to MP3's, there's any number of audiophiles who will suggest strongly that the two are mutually exclusive.
MP3 does decently, but it messes up some things even at 320 kbps. This sort of thing always makes me curious about how a prestigeous audiophile magazine would rate the OGG format. It must be the most rigid format I've even encountered. You can just lower and lower that quality setting and you can barely tell the difference until you're at the very bottom of it. The artifacts that start surfacing when you reach the low end of the scale sound more like static than anything else. In a way, it's better than MP3s 'bubbly' or 'watery' artifacts... and it never seems to lose punch. MP3 is notorious for killing the punch.
I have never understood other people's inability to construct reasonably correct sentences and even whole letters on the go. It's easy and it makes you feel sharper, so why not do it?
There's something annoying about that in written English. There's an "I" coming up there, and it just feels very very natural to insert a comma at that position, as if starting a new 'subsentence'. Not adding the comma makes the first "I" feel redundant. "When I eat, I..." feels much better than "When I eat I...". Don't ask me why. It just does.
I didn't realize you were on Slashdot, Alan. I had a look at your Slashdot page. Amusingly enough, I suspect you're one of few people on this site who can be said to have actual fans.;)
Writing computer software is like drug research. Just as no human reacts to a drug in exactly the same manner, no computer reacts to a piece of code in the same way. Even not Java is entirely transparent in this respect. I say something is fundamentally wrong about the way we build computers and OSes...
Accuracy and precision are not the same, as outlined in other replies to this article. The less drift you have over time, the more accurate it is. The higher number of ticks you have pr second, the more precise it is. It would be interesting to know the number of ticks/second these things can do, though...

"Most of them are never used."... Exactly how is this different from the life of the average Slashdotter?
I'm inclined to agree. I used a Mac ProTools system for some time. I wasn't impressed. SONAR 4 beats the crap out of Cubase and ProTools. And it works reliably for hours on end... unless you start installing sucky plug-ins, etc...
4. Saddam very foolishly continues with his threats.
Okay. Agreed.
5. USA retaliates against Afghanistan after Afghanistan refuses to cooperate with demands related to shutting down terrorists camps and turning in Bin Laden. As far as I remember no government and very few citizens of the world thought this was inappropriate.
There were in fact millions of people protesting about it in the streets of Europe. In the case of my country, Norway, the government decided to suck up to USA instead of listening to the people, and sent a symbolic amount of troops to Afghanistan "assist" them (Norway has a tiny army). The thing that angered people was how USA decided to take matters into it's own hands and act outside of the UN. I can perfectly understand how many Americans believe it's their country's mission to save the world. I respect that opinion. I just don't share it.
7. The U.S., having awoken on 9/11 to realize that even 19 unarmed passengers can attack the U.S., realizes that the ongoing threats of a country that at one time had WMDs, attacked three of its neighbors, and was still under suspicion of WMD should be taken more seriously. Ultimatums are made and ignored including by the U.N. The U.N. is unwilling to act but the U.S., recently stung by what we didn't even consider a threat, decides to take no chances and deal with the problem.
To my knowledge, later investigations showed the claims of Saddam having WMDs never had any truth to them. I haven't really kept updated on the situation in Brittain, but the British government is/were basically being accused of lieing about that issue, to justify assisting USA with troops. I read that one or more rather high ranking people decided to leave their government positions because of the revelations. Even if the claims of manufactured intelligence turns/turned out to be untrue, it's still poor intelligence work.
I can't say I'm convinced. I'm not a person who decides to keep an opinion simply for the sake of keeping one. Anyone who can properly clarify exactly why it was nessecary to attack Iraq will have my humble respect.
I can, in some ways, understand why Afghanistan needed to be retaliated.

Why hasn't this been modded up? It's so true.

Soo... what does it make you if you speak your mind but get modded as a troll?

I'd love to know why this was modded a troll. The person I was replying to was, after all, the one who attacked my person.
Okay. Agreed.
