    ...in the same sentence. I think most electronics DIY'ers (including me) are Linux/C/assembler types who have no interest in supporting MS..

    Elegant is over-rated. DNS is a great place to implement some good value trickery for 99.99% of customers.

    BigPond actually has the most robust DNS infrastructure in Australia..

    This is a very widespread practice now. Use your own ISP for DNS.

    Why can't we just query the drive firmware as to how many re-seeks it's doing? Yes I know this is probably not available in the standard command set but the drive must "know" that it's doing lots of re-seeks due to vibration??

    There is going to be a lot more induced signal onto the earth of a PC than just keyboard signals. PC's use switch mode power supplies, these are very very noisy electrically. Let's not even start with the multitude of other sources of induced EMF in a modern PC. I just don't believe these guys. Sorry. (Electrical Engineer of some 25 years).

    Steve and his antics will be greatly missed both here in Australia and around the world. While we all saw Steve as the consumate entertainer, Steve was as much an friend to the environment and it's creatures great and small. Thanks Steve!!! We will miss you!! A Sad Day......

    As usual with these things, I am struggling with how MS have gotten around what I would see as prior art. The CP/M file system, developed by Digital Research in ~ 1977. I wrote a defrag and badblock utility for CP/M and CP/M-86 in the 80's, and it's not a huge leap from the CP/M FS to a FAT FS. DR are long dead but it still begs the question....did MS really dream this up?
