No, that isn't it at all. How can we expect this to stay as a free country if we show ourselves as so closed to the rest of the world? (let alone ourselves)
And when we have non-disruptive upgrade technology so that the (possibly daily) patches to the thousands of packages included with a system, then we'll start dancing in the streets. Naked.
Gentoo's portage does wonders for me in that regard. But I suppose not all sysadmins want to go compiling all their packages to save unnecessary system load. Still, there are similar programs for binary updates.
I could see many users getting angry over this, thinking this is to the disadvantage of open source technology, but no.... this is clearly an advantage! This database will help ensure that essential bug fixes get worked on immediately. So don't flame over this... it will help make open source software more secure!Oh, right, and if you might think to the contrary, that people not knowing about vulnerabilities is the best way to go for security, you clearly need to do more research on the way open source software works, and why it is so effective.

:p Did you read the stuff written AFTER all that info? fine... I'll bring it up for you:
A lot of people may be stuck at work with Outlook. Also, many of us
have Outlook working in Linux with Crossover Office but I thought you
had to use Outlook Express for News. It's very likely that they are
using Windows in addition.
Not only that, but we've hit you so hard your broke college ass will be scrambling to pay this off for the next two years! Maybe more! APRIL FOOLS! Ahahahahaha..... god damn we're funny.
I had suggested this idea long ago, and posted about it here. I was subsequently shot down.
You got modded up pretty well, and your responses don't seem to be trashing you. Nobody's humping your leg, but I don't see you being shot down at all.
Dear Mr. Chicago, I understand your frustrations, but you must realize that this is not cause for anger, but celebration. For ages our country has faced a sort of voter apathy... often less than fifty percent of those eligible to vote bother to do so. Now that we have finally gotten past this you are complaining? I am sorry to say that I have no choice but to be very disappointed in you.
42nd post eh.... ah well, at least here on slashdot things aren't as bad as was on my forum. For a while there the users were aiming for "last post." (yes I know this is offtopic)
I found water in my bathtub this morning. You don't see my holding a press conference.
Did people once tell you that your bathtub could never have possibly been covered in water before?
Really, don't you people get it? Most people don't understand how supposed "cyber-wafare" works. They don't understand how a virus works. They're stupid, or should I say technologically incompetent, enough to believe that Dr. Norton really does a great job in the anti-virus world because.... he's a virus. And cyber-terrorism? Yes, there are many people out there who think that sending "cyber-attacks" across the internet is like sending over a missile. They don't understand the concept of what makes an actual exploit in a system. They think that shooting enough virtual missiles of any type at a computer can take them down.
I may be sounding harsh... but think about it, and I know you will recognize many of the people you know who fit this mindset description. Just think work, school, or home.
Yeah, I was reading that comment Taylor made being that "Just because you have more people looking at the code does not guarantee a level of quality, because those people might not be the most-qualified people to do code review."
Funny he says that on the same day we find out the NSA has contributed security enhancements to the Linux Kernel (which was just mentioned on Slashdot).
I'd rather have AMD be the leader than Intel. I've always been happy with AMD, seeing as how they don't bloat the appearance of speed on their cards to the average dolt at the expense of clear technical data.
Like how the combination of power lines and ethernet was supposed to grow cancerous tumors out of your eye sockets that develop into tentacles that molest japanese schoolgirls?
I'm pretty sure there was just a story about that on slashdot just a bit ago.
Based upon the evidence you have brought forth, I believe this must be the destroyer ship of the dreaded Microns.
To arms! Prepare your tinfoil hats and laser pointers!

Something needs to be done to protect our civil liberties quite soon... but what?

Oh, sorry, my bad.... I forgot that Microsoft also makes MS-DOS.
But nobody using Windows reads usenet.

Jeremy Rifkin already wrote a huge plan for this in his book The Hydrogen Economy. I'm suprised nobody else on here brought that up.
It's called "google"... most geeks use it, why not you?

I can safely say it wasn't.

It's a fact, nobody can own a fact.
This comment copyright me, and that's a fact. Use it and die.
Think about it. There has to be some reason why Mars once was covered in water and now isn't. Could the same thing happen to our own planet?
