  1. JWZ Resignation on JWZ Resignation (Part 2) · · Score: 1

A sad day! Probably long overdue. He stuck it out in an otherwise unbearable atmosphere. Believe me I am no stranger to this type of atmosphere. It's like slowly sucking your soul from you. It would have been kinder to have laid-him off originally. jwz is one of Mozilla's founding fathers and Netscapes actions up to and including AOL's take over must have been like a stab in the heart. Has anyone forgotten AOL and what it stands for. It has been an industry byword and an abomination. Is it now legit now that it has taken
over Netscape. I hope no one expects continued cutting-edge releases because Netscape exists no more. I would not doubt if Sun starts taking it over as a result of their recent liason with AOL.

  2. Microsoft on MS Office on Linux (Continued) · · Score: 1

Bad News Indeed! What are their true motives? We have WordPerfect, the excellent StarOffice, and Applixware. Are they reaffirming everybody's dependence on Microsoft. This will pave the way for more commercial apps and may legitimize them but excuse me I am very paranoid of this. It may be the end of Linux as we know it. Thank God(and Patrick Volkering) for Slackware.

  3. Dude, forget Tiger--get a Soyo on Ask Slashdot: Linux on Mobos w/ Integrated Sound & Video. · · Score: 1

All TigerDirect Premium boards are made by Soyo Surprise!! Look closely at the second chip in the pictures. The topline Super 7 is the *SY-5EMA+ They use the same number too! Same with the Pentium II boards. Check catalog XKC-111 the latest! page 24
    *$69.99

  4. Linux on Mobos... on Ask Slashdot: Linux on Mobos w/ Integrated Sound & Video. · · Score: 1

The TigerDirect motherboards and cases are a great value. In fact they are Soyo Motherboards. Their top-of-the-line Super 7 is now the SY-5EMA+ picked as the best in the industry and their Pentium II iBX board is Soyo's best also. The best part is they are cheaper than anywhere else with strong support. As for sound it depends on the chipset. Setting it up is the same as you would a card that supports the same chipset. In your case you would need ESS support. I belive you would need the ES-137* drivers for this chip. Check the docs from the kernel. In any case there is always OSS/Free.

  5. Movie Players for Linux on Ask Slashdot: Movie Players for Linux? · · Score: 1

Get xanim (must be from Woven Goods or SuSE) this version supports all codecs MS, Quicktime, etc.
RealPlayer of course from the Netscape archive and
X11amp or (recommended) Xaudio. The mxaudio player
that comes in xaudio is really superb. Woven Goods
has a complete collection of add-ons that makes
Linux complete including plugins for Netscape. Add mtv, timidity, and xltwavplay and you can definitely throw Windows out the door.

  6. Upgrading RedHat 5.2 to 2.2.0 on Ask Slashdot: Upgrading Red Hat 5.2 to Linux 2.2.0 · · Score: 1

Get shlibs5.rpm from SuSE 6.0 and install. It works great with RH! Upgrades ld.so to 1.9.9 and libc5 to 5.4.46. Many other extras too. Bulletproof. Intalls in same directory as RH.
Would be wise to remove the files in /usr/i486-linux-libc5/lib first though. As previously posted RH does not need this for the 2.2 kernels but it does strenghten the libc5 support.

  7. Linux-2.2.0-final and Slackware on Linux 2.2.0pre9 = 2.2.0 Final (Almost) · · Score: 1

    Well I have 2.2.0-final on my Slackware-Current
box. It absolutely smokes!! Stable too and thats with libc 5.4.46. I will be making glibc the primary next. Slackware 3.7 probably will be glibc/2.2. As soon as pre8 came out I noticed a huge performance boost on my machine. I use IBM 6x86 MII CPU's exclusively(P300/P333).

Funny how money changes things. 6 months ago
Dell was asked whether they would consider
installing Linux as an alternative OS. Their relpy? When hell freezes over or something to that affect. "Dell does not use shareware or freeware on their systems."

  9. Warp 5 on New OS/2 Warp client · · Score: 1

I been using OS/2 since MS bailed out(around MS Windows386)time. I have to agree the base system is very stable and robust. Easily competes with Linux and may even out-pace it. Look at Norloffs BBS etc..To test this theory one has to only install XFree86 on OS/2. The stability is even greater thsn Linux's. The WPS is definitely the source of all maladies even though one of it's best features.

  10. Features, features..... on New OS/2 Warp client · · Score: 1

Warp 4.0 comes with OpenGL 1.0 in the base package.IBM has eluded that they are dropping support for it though. As for a gaming platform.
Warp is probably the best DOS-based gaming platform made. OS/2 has so much going for it including native XFree86 support. If IBM just spend a quarter of the resources other competitors used there is no doubt in my mind what we all would be using right now.

How much you bet those flames cannot even read
an html tag let alone write simple html. They don't deserve Linux. Maybe this is part of a well-planned FUD attack on Microsoft's behalf??
Do you think I am Paranoid??
