What about the 'Big Brother' factor here! I think this is a Bad Thing. sure, robotic flies are cool and all, but this could easily be used to spy on anybody especially when these things are cheap to produce. and what about stalkers and voyeurs. these things must be very hard to spot. I don't like the idea that anyone could buy a cheap robotic fly and spy on anyone he wants.
This is definately a Good Thing(tm) the big company's are finally seing the light. This should also take away the need for customers to perform a relatively difficult install because it is allready installed. this will make more people able to try linux even if they're complete dummy's (operating KDE/GNOME is just as easy or maybe more easy than windows) and they will see the stability and wonder why they have ever accepted M$ crap.
It's just the human brain playing tricks on you. the brains is constructed in such a way it wants to recognize shapes , lines and even faces. because of this, a blur in an picture will easily look like a face. I wonder if people would report ghost sightings if they didn't know the library was haunted. what about setting up a camera on a location where there are no ghosts sightings. and tell the visitors there are ghosts and then you count how much reports you'll get from people who see ghosts in the blurs.
If this get's through, it will finally make the PHB's take linux seriously. they just couldn't ignore the OS that runs the fastest computer in the world.
Is there anything cooler than a T1 to your house? yes there is ! I live in a dorm at the univerity campus and I connect to the internet via a lan. we share the 300mbps uplink with +/- 2000 students and I can reach d/l speeds of aprox. 600-1000 Kbyte/s plus we have a 100Mbit between the student's homes. and the cost of that, less than $7/month! ---
This was a secret operation of the US government in collaboration with friendly aliens. They removed all the french and put them on some distance planet. then they put aliens that were genetically altered to look like humans in their place. because the aliens are much more evolved they have allready found out the benefits of open source software a couple of centuries ago. the starters of open source on earth have all been abducted by these aliens in childhood and the open source idea's have been hardwired into their brains. there are also rumors they are about to replace some people from irak, iran and russia.
I havent read the article yet, but is is possible to exchange the herddisk with a larger one, say 25 Gb I'd like to take all my mp3's with me so I can decide what I want to listen to when I am going to listen to music, depending on the mood I am in or what I am doing and 4.6g isn't nearly enought for my mp3 collection.
I think he meants a mp3 player in the form of a casette tape that you can insert into your car stereo and listen mp3's via the speakers in your car. I know there are 'cassette tapes' with a 3.5mm plug on it so you can hook op your discman to a normal car stereo. so it may also be possible to do the above. ---
I don't have a lot of experience with laptop harddisks, but I remember I saw a 2.5" disk once that coud withstand 75G another solution for the problem is installing memory for cache (with MP3 you only need +/- 4Mb for a average song)
the glowing of fireflies is the result of a chemical reaction in and special organ of the firefly, the firefly can somehow controll this. how can this apply to a tree. trees arent animals and I IMHO can't see that combining animal and vegetable genes has any result. if this however is possible, would it also be possible to add the genes for growing arms and legs to a tree and growing arms and legs for transplantation in that way. I am now an expert on genetics but is seems impossible to me to combine animal and vegetable genes. IMHO the differ too much.
If we make pocket versions of aLinux it should beat the crap out of Microsoft's AbacusCE AbacusCE is a totally closed design (the glued it together with super-glue) whereas aLinux is put together with screws. so you can customize it (change the color of the balls etc.) ---
I think all projects should skip any.13 release purely for the fun of it. (Like old hotels skip the 13th floor).
Like that guy who was going to bungee jump from an old hotel and in his calculations he forgot there wasn't a 13th floor so he got the cord a little too long.... how is that for bad luck and the number 13. seems like omitting the 13 could be bad luck too!
NCC (Nature's C Compiler) does no longer support -geek (it's deprecated), the new version (NCC 3.15.6) now uses the -nerd flag which turns off -superstition (just like version 3.14.8) but turns on the -mustreadslashdot12timesaday flag (this is new for version 3.15.6) furthermore, there is a new -microsoftslave flag (which disables the -nerd flag) and a new -linuxnerd flag (which enables -nerd , -mustreadslashdot12timesaday and -hateMS )
My only problem with that would be that if you were going to have an Electronic Repository For All Knowledge (Encycloedia Internetica?)....
what I would really like is an encyclopedia for ALL knowledge. what I mean is that you should be able to ask questions like:
what is the chemical composition for the blue ink in the color cartridge of the epson stylus color 640 how many cars in the US are running on gas How many green sweaters does Bill gates have what is the color of the traffic light on xx Th street in new york What is the average number of bolts used to attach street name signs to buildings
Why not buying a LARGE harddisk(s) and dump all your cd's on them (as mp3 offcourse), then you can create playlists for different moods. this way you can switch playlists very quick. like when coding (slow music) and when you start compiling the code and you get the same bugs over and over again. you you can quickly change to the 'I am pissed off because I can't find the bug' playlist. and when (finally) you found the bug, you can switch to the 'I am so happy because I finally found the bug' playlist! Large Harddisks are not that expensive anymore! and you don't have to change CD's ever again
But what if your xserver locks up your keyboard (had this once or twice) the mouse worked and furtunately I could select system->reboot but what if you disabled this ??? offcourse you could allways use a serial terminal, but if you don't have one, you're screwed!
Monolith (.ml.org) is no longer offering free 'domain' names but a group of ex-monolith employees started their own free service check out www.dhs.org you can select from.home.dhs.org or.n3.net

I do think that certain material should be withheld from minors.
you are right, but don't you think this is the duty of parents and not the government / ISP ?

A: the solution
:-)

now if other company's followed their example. we would be going in the right direction.

What about borg name's they sound professional :-)
e.g. you can call your SQL servers 1of3 2of3 and 3of3

...who have nothing better to do at 2am than wait around to make the first post...
When it's 2am at your place, it doesn't meant it has to be 2am at my place! the internet is a global thing, so is slashdot!

Hack into their bank accounts!!

A CD is +/- 80 Mb so you'll need 400 * 80 = 32000 Mb == 32 Gb == 2* 16.8 Gb HD a $250 = $500

so for aprox. $500 you'll never have to worry about changing CD's no more !
