I think we're forgetting something very important, event horizon. Cosmologists have already declared that we do not have a view of the entire universe, therefore any shape we assign to the universe will presently be nullified when we discover that the universe is a lot more "whack" than we think...lets all just wait about 50-100 more years until our technology actually ripens...

I see it as launching a craft that would put into orbit around europa and detach mini probes that would plunge/melt through the surface, transmitting discoveries to the "mother ship" and thus back to earth. All very "simple", electromagnetic waves can go through water, you know...

  10. well... on The Big Rip · · Score: 1

what about our galaxy being destroyed/consumed by andromeda in roughly one billion years? This rip sounds pretty stupid if you ask me, I think as it approached that critical expansion speed life would start faltering, i.e. gestation, procreation, etc etc. The last few seconds of life will NOT be "ripped".

this reminds me of the terraforming discussion we had a few days ago. Accelerated technology on ozone production is not only good for our planet, but for others in the future. Kinda harsh if we get up these billion dollar ozone making plants and they're obsoleted by good old mother earth...
