    Since ICFP = "International Conference on Functional Programming" one wouldn't be surprised that they like a functional language such as OCaml best, however the 2003 2nd place winner received this judge's proclamation:

    "C++ is a fine programming tool for many applications."

    And the 1st place winner landed:

    "C++ is the programming tool of choice for discriminating hackers!" 2003 ICFP results here

    Anybody who would bother entering "kazaa lite" into google will be referred to almost 390,000 links; the second one is a download site for the evil product. The link to the nastygram does appear at the bottom of the first page, but outside of generating a lot of noise on /. it has no effect. (If you will allow that noice on /. is an effect.....)

    A subsiquent comment on NPR pointed out the actual cost of cable subscription, and the lack of real choice, as: One must get a "package" of up to ~40 channels, while only really watching 3 or 4 of them. The only reason I have cable is as a hang-over from my computer/video work. That's long gone. Until the job-market improves, it's back to rabbit ears for me.

    ..that the only time that really counts is programming time. Execution time is trivial. And this saving continues to be true over the entire lifecycle of any product. [as an assembler and C/C++ coder I will admit certain exceptions do exist in hardware dependent areas, but these are rare & getting rarer -- which is why I'm looking for work ;D
