Way to post an out of date article as part of your argument. A quick look at the wikipedia entry for allofmp3.com shows that at least in Russia there is nothing wrong with allofmp3.com's legality.

    a quote from wikipedia:

The legality of AllofMP3 continues to be argued in Russia. According to a report in The Register, a preliminary Moscow City Police investigation resulted in a February 8, 2005 recommendation that AllofMP3 be prosecuted. The IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) also filed a formal complaint on February 8. However, IFPI's Russian legal advisor, Vladimir Dragunov, admitted in an interview with The Register that because of the structure of Russian copyright law, successful litigation against AllofMP3 appears unlikely.

In March 2005 the Moscow City Prosecutor's office decided that Russian copyright laws do not cover online distribution of creative works, and refused to bring a criminal suit against AllofMP3 because of the lack of corpus delicti. The copyright holders can still file a civil suit, though.

Think about the fact that most games that are out today contain and M rating. Does this suddenly mean that we will have a lot of shelf space under eye level that is empty or full of reader rabbit software.

I don't know about you but I know that when I go to the game store I want to be able to just stroll over and look at all the games without getting a crick in my neck because all the decent games are up near the ceiling. Also consider that when product is placed away from eye level it is probably not going to sell as well because that is where people are looking. If anything a better solution would be to put them in a seperate adult section of the store, but then maybe you have no probably with video games that carry an M rating being equated to porn?

Also consider the fact that the ratings system is a private non-government organization. It is done as a service to people who are concerned about ratings and in my practical experience I have not seen many parents use it at all. This is a persistant problem that is split pretty well between the retailers who voluntarily check ages on people who buy M rated games and people who don't pay attention to what their kids are buying. It has been proven numerous times and in practical experience that a fair number of the low wage employees at many large retail stores don't give a hoot if they get a message on the screen that says check the age of the buyer when they get a M rated game. They will just bypass it and sell the game anyway. I'm not saying this is always the case but it happens often enough. As far as parental blame, I have two boys and I sit down and look at everything that they watch or play so I have some idea if it is appropriate for my family. I don't neccessarily watch the whole thing through but I watch enough so that I have a feeling if it is indeed appropriate.

As far as the warnings on tobacco go, those are health concerns and I have yet to see someone playing a video game die from it. Although you will see that almost every console video game contains on the first page of the manual an epilepsy warning. How many people do you think are actually aware of that?

I have always been of the opinion that even with training most people are not able to program. I think that as you stated this has a lot to do with the ability of people to be able to hold long logic chains in their heads. A large percentage of people are have a very hard time with the basics of logic. Anyways I believe that programming is an art form and the difference between it and most other arts is merely which side of the brain is used.

I got this game the other day on a whim and I am rather impressed. It has several features going for it that I rather like. The first feature has to do with obtaining the game. You can go to the store and buy it or you have the option of saving $10(US) and downloading it. The download is available as an installer or as an ISO.

The second big feature that I really like is that since you have a commander the team oriented features work a lot smoother (with a good commander). There is nothing in life as simple as following a glowing beacon to where you need to accomplish some goal, or attack an invading enemy unit.

For my part I have had no problem running this in Linux but then I am also running an Athlon XP 2800+ with 256M of Ram and a GeForce 4ti with 128M of ram. I have found that most players are quite helpful and it is always nice to see that the developers are in there playing the game along with you. Also did I mention that the game does come with a map editor and the developer has also promised an SDK for modders?

You are definitely wrong about the _fan_ made tiles and hacks since the tiles and hacks that you get in the expansions are made by Bioware. The expansions have also added prestige classes, which are not available as a fan made extension, and many new creatures, which arguably can be made by fans. The next expansion for NWN will also be including epic levels which are once again not available as a fan made hack. Perhaps you should check your information before you deride a game. I personally have very little problem with expansions for games since it reduces the overall development time and allows you to optionally update your game with new content if you want it. For instance the fact that you don't need to have the first expansion pack for NWN to install and use the second expansion pack (when it is released) is a pretty big benefit. I have the expansions for Icewind Dale and Baldur's gate as well and am quite impressed with the additional content that was provided. To me an expansion pack allows you to basically get a new game out of an old game without having to pay the price for a new game.

I am a compulsive gamer. My point is that if you release source code shouldn't people from other platforms be able to download and possibly port your game for you? This could lead to increased sales of older versions of the game due to the need for people to use the data files that came with the game. My point is that last time I checked IE is made for one OS and at least a certain percentage of dedicated gamers prefers not to run said OS. I buy a fair amount of commercial games for Linux and I own a fairly high end machine to play them on. On a side note, yes I do have access to several computers running Microshaft OS but I personally prefer not to use them.

While people may have to look at those walls they do not own the walls. It would be similar to if I walked up to your house and said I don't like that color I'm painting it blue. Someone owns those walls and they can decide what color it should be. As far as community property goes it should not be one or two random individuals deciding for the community what they should look like, instead the community as a whole should decide what they look like. The fence analogy is just plain wrong because very rarely is a fence placed exactly on the property line. So one person owns the whole fence and they get to decide what color both sides of the fence should be.
