    So how does one display 26 letters of the alphabet with only 16 different combinations even possible, many of those being useless?

    Ah. It looks like those lower case letters are 3x3, not 2x2.

    I'm pretty sure that the effort required to put the necessary calories into your body is a lot higher, and less environmentally friendly, than burning a few gallons of gasoline in a car engine.

    It would have been just about as much effort to "switch" to the latest version of MySQL as it was to "switch" to the latest version of MariaDB. They were going to do one or the other.

    And incompatibilities for users are coming one day too, as soon as the feature set starts drifting between MySQL and MariaDB.

    Probably so. Which makes this the ideal time to pick MariaDB, while it's zero-effort.

    There isn't any effort to migrate from MySQL to MariaDB. It's a drop-in replacement.

    I'm not sure what you're arguing with me about; this all started with me coming up with a use for which 1Gbit is useful. You make it sound like I'm saying we should all stick with 5Mbps cable modems, when I'm saying exactly the opposite.

    With 1Gbit upstream, your 750GB hard drive could be completely transferred in something like two hours.

    You can actually back up all your stuff to another machine across the Internet in a reasonable amount of time.

    You could rent a VPS with lots of data transfer, configure a VPN, and pipe everything through that.
