- an administrator mode is accessible from the customer interface? And if they really insisted on doing that, they don't even require some kind of special admin credit card or key to be inserted? What moron designed that?
No need for all of it to be, increasing ocean volume is enough, the comments you are responding to are the explanation of why sea level does not rise the same worldwide. Your failure to notice that does not bode well for your powers of comprehension.
Since the melting Greenland ice is mostly above ground, the melt causes the mass of Greenland to reduce. This reduced mass produces less gravitational effect on the surrounding ocean. Consequently, as Greenland ice melts, the sea level nearest the Greenland melt will actually drop, even as more volume is added to the ocean from this particular melt. It is basic physics, and contributions to sea level from various reducing ice masses can and has been estimated. Europe actually is at somewhat less risk of sea level rise from such gravitational changes than the South pacific or the US east coast. That is why Florida is at increased risk, while Italy, not so much.
The continents exert gravitational effects on the ocean that affects sea level. And this can change over time if the continent contains significant ice that is melting away. The melt of Greenland for example, is expected to actually DROP sea level nearer to Greenland, even as the melt increases ocean volume. This is because gravitational effect is lessened when the body's mass decreases (the body here being Greenland). This is basic physics. Increased ocean mass due to glacier melt will have a disproportionate effect in areas where change in gravitational and/or temperature or current effects are less, such as in the south pacific. Also, ocean temperature is not static, warm water moves around due to currents and the related temperature expansion of the water volume does too. But keep pretending the ocean is just a big bathtub, it's certainly appropriate to the level of your ignorance in the matter.
That's because the earth is not a bathtub. Current, gravity, rotation, temperature, etc., all have effects in sea level. The moon isn't the only force that affects sea level.
Sea level is not constant or consistent across the SAME body of water. This is due to gravitational, rotational and current effects. Virtually all of the islands in the south pacific AND the north and west of Australia has been experiencing significant sea level rise. To suggest they're all simply sinking is completely ignorant of the facts. And note that some are ALSO sinking as well, it's not mutually exclusive.
There is a process to follow. Releasing classified information and then running to Russia is not in the procedures.
We've been over this. Binney followed the process. Drake followed the process. Wiebe followed the process. They were persecuted for their trouble. Snowden knew this and knew better. He did EXACTLY the right thing given the circumstances. Tyranny always comes waving the flag.
They're worried that at the next incident they'll get blamed and then dismantled because they failed to prevent it. The solution-- throw even more technology and data collection at the problem-- technology and enough data can fix anything, don't you know?. And then when they get called up to testify before Congress why they weren't able to prevent it, it won't be because they didn't collect the right data. Of course, it'll be because they had so much data they couldn't make useful sense of it, but that's another story (technology can fix that too, can't it?).
Just the same, it looks like the NSA's overreliance on technological solutions is likely to get worse instead of better. You should probably hope that you don't just happen to resemble someone's bad photo in their wanted database:
Traitor or not, he Pwned their ass. The NSA look like complete idiots, and continue to do so, and Snowden has shown them up at every turn. Remind me what we are paying billions of dollars for again? Whether or not you can lock up Snowden, the NSA needs its plug pulled for utter incompetence.
They use choppers so much it seemed like a war zone there much if the time anyway. I'm glad I don't live there anymore. I live in a small town now that can't afford choppers. And they do fine. A PD relying on choppers is like the NSA relying on mass data collection-- unnecessary and intrusive.
Setting up the infrastructure for a total surveillance state is simply beyond the pale. What Snowden has done is what any true American should have done. The machine that government is setting up must be stopped dead in its tracks while there is still time, or there will be no stopping it. And there will be no United States of America after that, only a spot on the map infringing a trademark. Snowden is a true patriot.
Yes, the security infrastructure justifies their actions to themselves like this:
if we do too little and an incident happens, we get blamed for it
If we do too much, and we can keep it secret, no one's the wiser
if we do whatever we can get away with, we may be able to keep an incident from happening
If we do too much and an incident happens anyway, we may be able to still keep our jobs if it doesn't look like we did too little
So it's pretty obvious what they are going to do. And what it means is, THEY NEED BETTER OVERSIGHT. They shouldn't be left to decide this for themselves.
A Church Comittee -like inquiry every few decades once sufficient leaks occur is not a very good mechanism for oversight, but it appears to be the only one we have.
If he had done it anonymously, all the journalists who accepted the documents would be under extreme pressure to reveal who it was, likely to the point some of them would be jailed and prosecuted. Snowden saved them that trouble, so we could all focus on the documents and not on punishing the messengers.
I tried it once. Secured a thumb drive with it. I then proceeded to forget the pass phrase almost immediately, making it useless. Fortunately it was just a test so I didn't lose any data but I figured that for me the risk of the data going inaccessible outweighed any real need to encrypt anything. And it's hard enough to keep old drives operational and find stuff on them without having to remember what some old encryption password is-- unless I stick a written note right on the drive.
I don't care that it's only 25 MPH. I'll likely be buying one as soon as you don't need to have a drivers license, or soon after. My last DMV renewal I had to take the eye test again and I just barely passed. The next time I might not. The only reason I need a driverless car is when I no longer qualify for a license. Otherwise I can just drive myself.
We know the NSA eavesdropped on Merkel, it's been admitted, essentially. The more interesting thing to ponder is, was it just one instance of listening to a single call, or has the NSA been listening in on pretty much ALL her calls? I think we know the answer to that. And, is Merkel the only world leader, person of importance, etc., being monitored? I think we know the answer to that, too. Pretty much EVERY world leader, and person of importance is being monitored as long as they are able to, and there's little doubt anyone they can't listen in on is particularly interesting just for that reason alone and gets extra attention. In any event, those who can't be monitored are few and far between.
When a new US President enters office, he's briefed by the intelligence community about all the interesting things known around the world that are not common knowledge. Of course, some of those things are probably bogus because anyone with any brains figures they're being spied upon and the best way to deal with that is to make use of it by feeding it with disinformation. Be that as it may, any President thinks he knows far more about the goings on in this world than the American public (and he probably does, that's not really saying much). The President undoubtedly knows enough to have a jump on the stock market, if he wants it, by knowing what moves world leaders are about to make. And the American public is then expected to be knowledgeable enough to vote intelligently? No, this excess information has turned the American government into a cynical paternalistic and tyrannical force, that more accessible health care, a little bit of social security, lower taxes, television and ready access to guns is supposed to fix. Sorry, but that's just not enough to make it any less cynical, less paternalistic, or less tyrannical.

Dunning-Kruger strikes again.
17.5? Why not 15? Or 30? Cherry pick much?

That means even a rat is more ethical/honorable than former U.S. president George W. Bush.
Yeah, and every other politician too. And most of the mainstream media. Or maybe the latter is merely incompetent...
So does that mean if I make a statement like, "the NSA is perfectly competent to protect us from terrorism," that they will take it as a complement?

Time to fill up your facebook profile photos with thousands of bogus images.

I absolutely agree Grace Hopper needs a good documentary. But $45,000? that won't even pay for the trailer...

Well, it's nice to know that DVDs are still selling better than downloads. I mean, how else do you explain such ridiculous propaganda?

Simple. If they're a Republican, they're ideologically bent on disrupting government.
