And I can say they're pretty amazing - the range is much more than 15km (I saw them visiting a friend from Leixlip over 25km away). They make this city beautiful - The messages were uncensored initially, but then the authorities smartned up - to an extent!:) Try submitting something in a different language..
Why not learn a language that matters? Ive taken it upon myself to learn Spanish, French, Arabic, Indian -- Russian is next on my list. I doubt Ill ever meet more than a few handful of nerds who speak Elvish.
Apple will never go down the intel/AMD route, and hence never let their OSX run on commodity hardware. Steve Jobs has made it clear he doesn't want Apple to compete on price. Even if Apple did use intel/AMD chips, it would be on their own custom motherboard, and so windows users wont be able to 'update' to MacOSX.
People forget Apple is a hardware company, and I feel if they are going to change chips (Which they should considering Motorola's lack of interest in maintaining good competition and providing better chips) They'd be better off going with IBM's PPC970 64-bit. All rumours already point to this.
I for one would not want MacOSX to run on commodity hardware, the beauty of OSX is that everything works as Apple has full control over the hardware.
And we all know thanks to piracy they'll never make money selling their OS to ex-windows users on commodity hardware.
I got the 12" Apple PB as soon as it came out (had an iBook before this)- It's great if your college/campus is Wi-Fi enabled, great advantages (OSX, CDRW/DVD-R, etc.) And with the recent price-drop, Education Deals are sweet for the 12/15" PBs (Infact I find it better value for money than other Wintel machines with all the features packed in). The regular price is now $1599, edu-discount would make it even cheaper and they always throw in freebies.
OSX makes life so easy for everything from note-taking (Omni-outliner), to browsing, to connectivity, networking, CD-burning, Storing contacts, iCal, etc. The only downside I see for people is those who really want gaming rigs.
It seems so far only the American store website has been redesigned. Apple europe is the same old design (which I prefer in a way, but then Apple knows better..)
I have a 12" PB 867Mhz -- I see no difference since 10.2.4.. I get 3 hours with full brightness and full performance, and upto 4 hours with brightness at 25% and reduced performance. It always charges to 100% and the amber light turns green.
I doubt this is a software issue.
People seem to complain about battery life after every update. Remember how people said battery life is reduced with Jaguar (10.2)?
I have lived in Ireland (three locations), Oxford, Paris, Dubai, Pakistan and am currently a 2nd year student in Ireland..
I changed school every 2-3 years, yet I always considered myself the most popular person in that I got on extremely well with the nerds as well as with the "jocks" While the US culture may not have existed in the countries I lived in, I do know that even now in college I was selected president of my year of 200 simply because I got on with everyone and drew votes from the rugby/soccer team as well as the joint-hons with Maths team.
Being nice is all it takes for a person to be accepted into a group.
Nerds and Jocks arent different breeds of humans. Sure, they're better at some things than others.
What pisses jocks off is when A) Nerds try to act different and smarter by rubbing it in their face with stupid questions B) Nerds try to be someone they arent (as someone pointed out girls laughing at your attempts to hook up with them).
Just be yourself, and shrug things off.
My "jock" friends still laugh at me for reading slashdot. My "nerd" friends still make fun of various drunk photographs.
It's all about fun, understanding, and living. And these will be the best years of your life.
The 12" Powerbook has; a G4 Processor (iBook has a G3) 133Mhz Bus (iBook is still 100Mhz) Slot-loading drive (iBook has a tray).. Audio line in (unlike the iBook) etc..
The dimensions are actually smaller than the ibook, the hinge is different, keyboard and casing is different. I think the only thing similar is the 12.1" screen with the ibook.
The lack of l3 cache is sad, no idea why they chose to do it.. reduce costs? No DVI out, I heard was due to space constraints and the fact that the 12" isnt really meant to be a desktop replacement, but a mobile computing platform.
I recieved my powerbook last week, and it's definately the best machine Ive ever owned. Yes, I switched from Linux and WinXP. No intention of going back.
Once again European Prices are much higher...
US$1999 = 1645 (With Irish 21% VAT = 1990)
However Euro prices are 2249
Whats the deal with a 250+ markup?
(That's a further 13% est.)

Roll on the 970 and Panther.
That's my dream.

But it's cool!
