We all know the nastiness SCO has sunk to and we don't like it but the most satisfiying solution will be to watch them crash and burn in court.

Defacing SCO's site doesn't do any damage to SCO, in fact the opposite because they can now cast "The Linux" community in a negative light. Amusing as the new logo is, someone has still most likely broken the law in placing it there and so SCO can say with some justification that some of their opponents are willing to even break the law to get at them.

So yes, it is amusing and it is just a bit of minor vandalism but on balance I would rather whoever did this hadn't done it because it is just more grist for SCO's FUD mill.

Why are they covering this up ?

Wait, I am picking up their carrier waves on the plate in my head, they say they will ban TV, Gays and Fornication but offer us all the opportunity of at least 4 fully accredited abductions per family and provide live reconstructions of the of the Raputure. They have big eyes, funny shaped heads but big hands and huge crosses and we should welcome them.

I think that's bang on, if there is ever an economic or strategic benfit in having installations on Mars then anyone who can get there to take control of whatever income stream has been discovered will go, anyone who can't afford to go will have no say whatsoever in what then happens.

Once countries, corporations, extremely wealthy private adventurers or whoever are up there they will be do what the hell they want and there's not going to be anything anyone can do to stop them. If they are reliant on some kind of supplies from Earth then perhaps control of those can be used to dictate what they can and can't do but anyone with a fully independant supply line is pretty much going to be able to make up there own rules.

  11. Re:Too early to for parks on Scientists Propose 'National Parks' On Mars · · Score: 1

That is a very boring strategy. It would be a lot easier to study Mars with people in place on the planet doing the studying than relying on remote probes etc.

Definitely scientfic study should be the first thing which happens and then if these studies turn up anything useful or valuable then colonisation of some sort will not be far away if it proves viable.

We shouldn't ignore the science and we should take long term factors into account in our decisions on Mars but we shouldn't let that stand in the way of exploration and possible colonisation, you can stand and stare at something for years and never know what it is or how it works until you get stuck in and up close and personal with it.

In any case it is all fairly academic, if anything is discovered on Mars which would justify the cost of going there to get it you can bet that any country who could afford to go there and get it would be straight out of the blocks and there'd be very little control you could excercise over what happened on a planet millions of miles away if you cannot get there yourself to impose your ideas.

I can't see why Religion in general or fundamental religious zealots like Creationists in particular have such a problem with Evolution, eventually you all accepted that the Earth does orbit the Sun and computers do work thanks to Electricty and not the divine spirit of the lord.

The only reason I can see why you cannot accept evolution or add anything sensible to the scientific process is some kind of desire to prove that everything written in the Bible is true, this is not so much celebrating your faith in god as a selfish desire to prove that you are right and people should do as you say.

So unless you have anything sensible to say please shut up.

Radia is a bloomin' pain in the neck, the last place I worked used Radia and it was horrible ( Radia it's self is possibly very nice and useful, it's the way it was implemented that was annoying ).

Company polict stated that everyone should always turn off there PC's when they left for the day and you'd get moaned at if you didn't. The Radia team told everyone they must keep their PC's on at all times but this was never company policy.

Every morning it would take 20mins or so for Radia to install all the nights patches and reboot the PC's a couple of times. At random times during the day it would also reboot your PC automatically for you if you didn't notice what was happening quickly enough to stop it.

Various PC's were being used as servers but not offically classed as such ( due to the excessive hurt and pain involved in that process ) and they also would reboot themselves randomly cause outages on whatever they were doing.

Some PC's were still Windows 95 and Radia would never manage to install anything on them, just keep crashing, rebooting indefinitely.

In the end I managed to delete enough of it that it stopped working and gave me some peace of mind.

I think the lesson here is not to just deploy cool new tools willy nilly without assessing their place in your working practices.
