The proposal isn't to make two companies, one selling left shoes and the other right shoes, its to make two companies, one selling shoes, the other selling socks!
That would obviously raise the price of the socks (since it was earlier bundled with the shoes), and will allow other socks manufacturers in the game... that was the issue in the example right? Extending monopoly in one market into another?
In Microsoft's case, if these two/three companies need to stand on their own, they will realize the STUPIDITY of the EEE approach used MS.
In any case, where will the server products go? especially IIS and MSSQL?
BTW, I must say that the ONLY good product put out my MS EVER (except DOS when it came out) is MS SQL 7.0 - what simplicity & power for that price!
... lines of code maybe. Dollars? heh! not even in my dreams! But who's going to take the initiative? How about the smart ass^H^H^H^H guy who wrote the article and/or CmdrTaco? I'm willing to donate my food money for a month if someone is willing to take the lead and get this thing started.
I'd love to do it! Yeah! Make checks payable to... er, I'll stop now, but we've gotta make sure this person knows what he/she is talking about and has the necessary investing/hacking experience!:)
There is something called Aktion that comes with Linux-Mandrake. Then click on features on the left. Among others, it mentions aktion 0.2 (mpeg/avi/mov player)
I must say, Bernard Lang makes an excellent case. Well put. Well organized. He isn't a "Director" for nothing!:) I was wondering if the speech and the presentation was "GPLed"?? So that other countries/companies could use it in almost its entirity.
So, maybe you should take your foot and its rather humid surroundings somewhere else.
Maybe you're responding to that. I presume that means: Foot in hot water = rather humid surroundings of your foot. Or, the foot-in-mouth syndrome = moist, and perhaps even humid surroundings.
Wassenaar Agreement... Sorry, I'm not familiar with that... any good sites (gosh, even books!!) ? I'll search around, but pls post if you know the jist of it off hand...
A lot of people seem to be hinting at the opening of an organization that would be a IRS certified charity who "holds" the rights to ALL GPL'ed Software!!!!
I for one will not write any software for free if some company/org controlled by someone (may it be ESR or God, although for some they are one and the same:), "OWNS" it... in the future, they may just change their mind. Some sadistic bastard could sneak into it and make mucho money by more or less violating every single programmer who ever wrote free code...
The prospect of writing code for the PUBLIC is very alluring to INDIVIDUALS. Some might argue these INDIVIDUALS are the smarter ones in the industry, and are VITAL for the open source movement. Such a move, IMHO, will discourage individuals and encourage CORPORATIONS or small companies for tax reasons. That might well mean BAD code and hence, the DOWNFALL OF THE OSS movement!!
I don't think this is a good idea at all. If corporations don't feel like doing a service to the general public, they can sell their products. Wanting a reward for charity is the most bogus ideal ever.
(Everything above is wrong. What you think is right. Ok? Now go suck your thumb and lay in your mother's lap.;)
First off, Apache has ASP modules. Plus, Netscape's FastTrack etc. support "LiveWire" which is exactly Server-Side Java Script. Your company just needs an excuse to use M$, not a reason to use UNIX.
Since there has been so much publicity that Comp Sci majors make shit loda dough after they get a job, lot of hot women (you know, the cheerleaders from your highschool etc) are joining CS. There are two in my class of 20. But if you're good, you know who sits with them all night helping them finish the project...
(Please don't take this seriously, for the sake of your sanity!)
