I like how you ignored what I said about wealth, I wonder how many people in LA are under the poverty level compared to Atlanta or Boston. Oh and detroit would be bigger if we anexed in a bunch of surrounding towns, like LA did.
We could annex in Grosse Pointe and make our economic power increase by ten fold.
http://www.mtc.ca.gov/datamart/forecast/ao/tablea4.htm
Please go there and please shut up. Detroit and Atlanta combined may only have 1/2th the population of LA, but I wonder what percentage of those two tons can more than afford to head out and see anime movies. Do you think the wood, or the other gang filled areas are going to be running to the movies. Plust LA jacks up it's population by annexing other towns into LA.
When you look at the economic standing of Atlanta compared to LA you'll notice a trend, there are a few rich in LA, but when you consider their unemployment rate compared to Atlanta you can see that a good percentage of their population can't afford movies. or much other than food for that matter.
These are not fly over cities. I measure a city by more than it's population. I measure it by the size of it's buildings, the economic wealth of the people in it. who cares if you have 8 million poor beggars in a city, if you could go to a city like boston with 1 million well off college kids. THis is where I would put these movies. These cities that are surrounded by immense quanitites of colleges. like Boston that has more colleges in its metropolitan area than any other city.
COllege kids watch anime, not whinos
Personally I think a lot of legislation forced down on children is entirely unfair, especially considering they have no vote or say in it. LIke I still thinks it's rediculous to have a drinking age of 21 but a smoking age of 18. I think that if kids are old enough to have an M16 tossed into their hands and told to go die for their country, they are old enough to have a couple of beers. Sexism is heavily frowned upon, and so is racism, why not ageism? Because all the policy makers are old and have forgotten what it's like to be young.
It made me so angry when I was 18 and I signed up for a 20K loan to cover my first year of college. It made me angry I was old enough to put myself 20 thousand dollars in debt, but not old enough to drink certain kinds of beverages.
Well we could cry, that's what I do when I get spam and my four year old reads it. Oh wait, nope, not the case. Listen talk to your kids about sex and they won't go looking for it on the web, and if they are looking for it, they're probably at the age where a little nudity won't kill them. Lets face it, your not allowed to look at porn till your 18, when I was in high school I didn't know many 18 year old virgins, so what's up with that, kids have to go into a sexual relationship with no experience, that's dumb, and besides, even when there wasn't the internet, we got a hold of dirty magazines, If it wasn't for porn when I was 15 going to an all guys boarding school, I probably would be way screwed up now. Plus, what's everyone got against masterbation. lol
I love how everyone thinks that L.A. and New York are the only major cities. First of all, what's so great about L.A., nasty smog, hotter than hell and filled with hippies. And New York, well, it's not as pretty as it used to be, to say the least.
But what about Detroit? Is that a fly over city, have you driven a car lately, you don't think that Atlanta is a major city, Their are more corporate headquarters in these flyover cities than you'll ever imagine.
The hell with LA, it's a breeding zone for gangland violence, I hope it falls into the sea, and as for New York, it's shitty what happened to New Yorkers, but I hated the city before and I am not changing my opinion out of pitty.
I drive a sports car, that sucks in New York, spend all day stuck in traffic, while here in Detroit, I get around at about 90mph
These two series were filled with more drama and intelectual commentary than any series ever made in the U.S. When Spike in episode 25 I believe says.
"What are you going to do, throw your life away as if it were nothing?!" - Faye
"I'm not going there to die, I'm going to find out if I'm really alive." - Spike
I thought to myself, with the previous conversation that this is the deepest charachter I have ever come upon. Or in Gundam Wing when Hero gives a ten minute monologue in one of his classes. I thought to myself that no tv show would allow so much talking of one person. Plus in Anime, you ussually need to watch the whole series otherwise it's like reading a book starting at the middle, they ussually have continuing storylines so that you really get to know the charachters as apposed to the 30 minute stories we get in most tv where one episode has little to do with the next and you can play them all out of order and no one cares.
Anime is stories, not sit-coms, but true stories, with a hero, a person that even at my age I can envy. And see in that charachter the nobility and heart I would like to find in myself.
You see we feed on it even more now, because we are no longer alloted the chances to be heroes, wars are fought from plains and their are no great battles of sword and shield. No memorable moments, and no songs are song to remember the soldiers of old.
Anime gives us some of this back. And that is why I love it.
I think your absolutely correct I own the DVD release of the series and always watch it in non subbed form, because the japanese voices seem so much more true to the charachters than the american voices. Spike doesn't come across as apathetic as he needs to, Jet sounds like a damn idiot, hell they even fucked up Edd's voice, I am just going to continue watching my sub-titles.
That's not fair to say, they would be able to find it, if they could see past Giuliani's big head. You know there making a tv movie about him? Why on earth would they do that, it's not like he put the fires out.
They always have such sweet mouths while at the same time they seem to know everything and have been everywhere.
I happen to have information from the U.S. Census bureau that denies your belief as to where the huge asian populations are. But what would the census bureau know.
http://www.census.gov/population/cen2000/atlas/cen sr01-108.pdf
Umm your failing to note some crucial points in my comment. Their standard tuition is 30,000 dollars a year, and that still doesn't cover the 800$ a month they are charged for their dorm rooms. If I was paying 800 dollars a month for a room the size of my bathroom at home, I would be pretty pissed if they wanted to charge me anything for network access.
See what you don't understand is that they also pay nearly 800$ a month for their dorms that their forced to live in the first year, they shouldn't be charged for network access at all.
if your not using p2p I highly doubt you'll top 2 gig a month very often.
intermodal is full of shit, I don't use the internet for fun, just for business and stuff like that. I know what kazaa is but I never use it. I bet next he'll say he doens't have any mp3s on his computer.
we only paid 500 a month, but I still agree... we were required to live on campus as Freshman and not allowed to bring cars, that kind of limits possible activities. and after paying my 26 grand a year tuition, I don't have a lot of reserve money for going out to the movies, p2p saved my sanity, then they blocked the ports, and I spent a lot of time crying to the silence of a kazaa without a connection.
next year moved off campus and could afford business call DSL with 4 of my friends and paid less than I did on campus, schools lie about the cost of their bandwidth
Uh huh, and if they block p2p like my school did. Then they'll have Kettering's (used to be GMI) problems. Now Kettering can only get freshman to live in dorms because off campus housing is cheaper even with the business class DSL I have coming into my house up there, I get 4MB/s all to me and my 4 friends. and still pay less than I did in dorms.
"Fuck Cornell, Fuck them right in the mouth."
That's a bunch of shit. Cornell is filled with student son scholarship or scraping buy to afford, my best friend is in the ROTC there to pay for his college. It's a very difficult engineering school, that you would be so lucky to have been accepted to.
and why would you want to render that useless? P2P is the reason why most people get broadband. Cornell students actually pay an added fee of 250$ per year for their network connection on top of their 30,000$ a year tuition. I say Cornell should quit bitchin and open up another OC3. lol
There are excellent reasons, first of all, farming is not necessarilly that lucrative of a business, farmers are not getting rich off their profession. Your tax dollars are wasted on much worse things, like building an elevator to space.
By subsidizing farms you preserve the soil for the future, without subsidy, most farmers wouldn't be able to afford to let any of their land sit. It's a necessary evil.
Ummm...paying farmers to keep their fields empty is an excellent use of money because it benefits the farmers and the soil. Trying to eradicate drug usage helps a lot of people. Building a space tether, how does that help me?
Re:'Because We Can' good enough reason?

First, THe sun explodes? You mean in the suggested 8 billion years that most physicists assume. Considering that's like 7.9 billion years longer than any species has managed to survive without killing itself off, I don't see that as a big threat
Second, That's a pretty big if don'e you think. They said it would be nice to get to less than 250$ per pound but simply based on the distance the train has to travel to space tells you something, How much fuel do you think it will take to drag an object, straight up, for the 100,000 km it would have to travel to get to the top? They don't mention this when they talk about the elevator, that that's a lot of fucking fuel whether your flying or climbing something.
I realise that gravity will lest as it goes up, but for the first 40000 KM it will have to deal with it, and that's a bit of an issue.
And you say this probably won't be gas powered trains, more like electric or nuclear, judging on current specs I would say nuclear, which would be beautiful if their was an accident. Nuclear meltdown at 6 miles off the surface of the Earth. I wonder if that would be bad.
And what the hell are we trying to get to space that's so important?
That was a brilliant idea, building a database oriented mail server that isn't even real time. fun fun. I hate lotus. Oh and sametime, ICQ corporate edition was out long before.
actually I got that information from a book I read a while back called hiroshima, it is written by a survivor of the bombing, and in the book he mentions that the fields that were charred ash directly after the bombing were filled with wild flowers the day afterwards.
Some of my other comments came from previous knowledge and this site is helpful.

Why do you think that our future is in space? And no AIDS, and Cancer don't have to be around forever. Diseases can be cured eventually. Also things like hunger and war can be solved as well. Hunger can be solved by population management and proper distribution of resources. And war will go away when mankind evolves to a species that no longer strives for the greed of goods and power. If we had different goals than we would see that war and murder are disruptive to true progress.
You see, that even if technologically we advance at a great rate and can suddenly travel millions of light years and set up space colonies. It wouldn't matter, because that wouldn't change the people we currently are. We would just carry our problems with us into space. We need to evolve some more. And our species when in comparison to all other known species is doing just fine. We are constantly evolving, and based on the worlds current timeline of animal growth we are learning at an exponential rate. In the past hundred years we went from no phones to running water, space travel, and IP phones. There is lots of advancement going on in our social real too. Such as slowly phasing out racism, I know this isn't completed yet, but were working towards it, and the idea that we want to change actually means something, a few hundred years ago, we just accepted that people were racist and it was fine. Now were working towards a more global view of one race, one species. Science will help bring us into the new erra but not really with space travel, more with the design of better energy sources, and better food production, because once you remove hunger from the world you will end large portions of the things people fight over, and naturally religion needs to go away, as old mythologies did. Because religion itself is the cause of 62% of the worlds war fatalaties so far. Unless you count World war II as a religious war, then you chalk in 7 million jews and that 62% jumps up quite a bit.
So I reiterate, how is space our only hope?
Sir,
There is a huge difference between plant and animal cells on the cellular level and it has a lot to do with why radiation can make our skin break down and fall off our body, while it will make flowers suddenly grow like mad. It has to do with the differences in cellular walls.
Water your neutron theory is completely wrong. Water actually will become radioactive from gamma radiation when it is constant and in large doses.
