  1. Invented RTS? Doubtful on Command and Conquer Generals Released · · Score: 1

They basically invented the RTS market

They might have come up with the name 'Real-Time Strategy' (mind you, I didn't realize they had before today), but I doubt they invented the genre. As soon as I read that my mind went back to games I was playing well before any that WWS had made.

    Here's a read

  2. It's a recommendation believe it or not on Baked Apple · · Score: 1

I'm married, and my wife watches these 'women' shows that teach you everything from: how to make really pretty ornamental flower arrangements from tissue paper (unused of course) to how to dress like martha stewart. Anywho, I saw on one of these shows where the lady was explaining that if you're in a big hurry -- guests coming over and all -- and trying to get the house in order quickly, just toss dirty dishes, or whatever is laying out that you want out of site, into the oven.

I'm convinced that's what causes this sort of thing. You forget all about having the items in the oven, and, later, while preheating to cook a that roast, something starts smelling funny....

  3. It's like this on OSS Officially On Microsoft's Financial Radar Screen · · Score: 1

OSS is happening. Whereas I've read /. forever now and worked at a place that was 100% microsoft, my corporation -- worth $1.6 billion -- is replacing ms office with Open Office and Exchange 2000 with Sendmail/Squirrelmail. This all happened at once when our dollars got thin due to the current economy. I can't get approval for a waste basket let alone some $20,000 to add some 350 Exchange licenses. Microsoft has drained us dry. Yet, we still have 350 people needing email. I offered Squirrelmail as a solution and my management was all over it. These were the same folks that scowled at me for mentioning the word "linux" in the recent past.

Here's the scary part for you Microsoft: management now understands -- despite what techrepublic tells them -- that no licensing fee means (get this) 'no licensing fee....'

Yes, but, would we have had monty python's work without it. Think about it, do you really want to do away with:

ARTHUR: I'm averting my eyes, oh Lord.
GOD: Well, don't. It's like those miserable Psalms - they're so depressing.

How about "abdicating" then - big f'ing deal... I can use a spellcheck as well as you.

"There's a difference between an atheist and a god-hater. As a former atheist, you insult me...." I think is how it went.

If more of you dont start thinking for yourselves, taking responsibility for your actions instead of abdacating....

"Abdacating" eh? Thinking for yourself has gotten you far....

  7. The loss of talent on Space Shuttle Columbia Breaks Up Over Texas · · Score: 1

The most tragic part is, of course, the loss of human life. But more than that, these people are the best of the best and hard to replace.

I watched on the Science channel last night the hour long show concerning a possible trip to Mars. The risks are incredible, and, yet, there are those who do not flinch when stating they'd go in a hearbeat. These people are truly brave and irreplacable....
