Margins. With margins this low they can't afford to have any units left on "clearance" because they lose money on every one of those, and each one wipes out the profits from many successfully sold units.
Coincidentally, right after HP peaked, they hired former Microsoft Windows boss Bill Veghte who is just recently made it to COO managing daily operations. He is in grand position to perform his Elop maneuver on HP when Windows 8 launches, announcing total commitment even unto death. How odd that after all these years the heads of BOTH of Microsoft's two largest and most successful divisions might jump ship almost simultaneously and wind up at the head of key companies just at the pivotal moment. Uncanny, eh?
Are you under the impression that most people need hardware more performant than low-end 5 year old gear? They don't. Manufacturers knew they wouldn't. That's why they pushed so hard for leasing. What people need is software that's not designed to make the least benefit of their hardware, but the most. Fortunately that is available.
The decline into ice is rather steep. It seems that the high albedo of ice creates a self-reinforcing feedback mechanism. These issues in a rather rapid descent evolve into ice ages so swiftly that we have actually recovered Wooly Mammoths frozen in ice with daisies in their bellies preserved from the other side of this freezing and warming. To purposely venture closer to this cliff seems unwise.
OK, I was wrong about that. But it's still a 1mm aperture refracting lens. Actually looks like a mini Fresnel to me. Not going to be great for astronomy.
Copying from one great artist is stealing. Copying three or more is research. And that's OK.
But lay claim to the commons and you steal from all. It is to say "Not only do I stand on the shoulders of giants - but noone else may."
To claw back from the public domain works owned by the public, or extend temporary rights indefinitely is the same. It is unjust. It is a violation of the social contract. We will not honor the law when it is so unjust. The attempt erodes the rule and force of law, and steals from the commons again the order and comfort general respect for the law provides.
So if there were not this warming, we could expect ice. Lots and lots of ice. Not just in the Arctic but right here at home. The kind of ice that crops don't grow in. And you're upset about this for some reason. Why?
The last low-ice event related to orbital forcing (high insolation) was in the early Holocene,
It's not obvious from your quote so I'll just point out that the Holocene began 12,000 years ago.. That means that this era of an Ice-free arctic occurred in the Age of Men, and it didn't kill us all off - nor were we responsible for it. "Insolation" means higher solar input. So we can blame the sun for warming before, but not now for some reason.
Maybe the PC is the target platform.
You can attempt to patent every possible permutation of its application. If you're a jerk.
Like Stuxnet, these computers will be found to be Windows computers. But the reports almost always leave that out for some reason.
Exxon and BP are nations unto themselves in this regard. Worse, even, as they're accountable to nobody.
Jurisdiction site redundancy. Censorship is damage. Route around it.

Maybe. But one of those bad boys is still going under my tree.
Mistrial.
They've already bought every side with a reasonable chance at power anyway. Politicians are very inexpensive.
A company named Planetary Resources is working on this. They're in Seattle.
L2 might work better as you could use the additional leverage to assist launching stuff out of cislunar space.
Correct. This would work on 1 Ceres though. I was trying to figure the math on that one a few months ago.
Well said!

Just buy the server. They don't cost so much for what they are.

That's the spirit comrade.
The difference between theory and practice is that in theory they're the same, and in practice they're not.

You are being deliberately disingenuous. We're done here.

The article I read said Near IR up to THz. The problem would probably be the 1mm aperture of the stated lens.
