I understand your concerns. I'm one of the people who regularly contribute emails that I have received to both the IFCC and the National Infrastructure Protection Center. Most of the emails are scam operations, such as fraudulent MLM, or the Nigerian scam. Others are links to child porn sites, and various other illegal activities. I'd like to think that by forwarding those emails, I'm helping in a small way to shut down criminal activities. I doubt that the FBI and others are abusing their powers, rather that they are doing the job they are charged with. When one of these alleged criminals are brought to justice, they have every right to be defended by an attorney, who should be competent enough to challenge the evidence against their clients.
This is where all the original complaints were filed, and checking the graphs, only 24.9 percent of people had reported the crime to other law enforcement agencies prior to contacting the IFCC. This is not a case of AG Ashcroft misusing his office, rather it is the system in action, and I'd like to see more of these criminals brought to justice.
Steve Linford
of Spamhaus seems to think he knows who is behind the Fizzer/Sobig/Mimail attacks, and will be releasing the information in the near future.
In the article, he leads one to believe that Fizzer is still active in the wild. As a member of IRC Unity, the group founded to eradicate Fizzer, I have not seen a report of Fizzer in months.
If Steve Linford actually knows, he needs to contact Microsoft. The money would help him pay for the losses incurred by the DDoS attacks against Spamhaus.
A previously unknown software development company in Lower Slobbovia has been issued a patent for a method of placing pictures on web sites. Film, um, text, at 11.
The Mimail-E variant is also DDoS'ing several financial web sites, such as Fethard.biz
The FBI has maintained that they will not pursue an investigation of a DDoS attack unless a substantial financial loss has occured. With the attack on an Internet financial site, this should be enough for the FBI to become actively involved.
I've never heard of Fethard, and at first glance, the site looks a little suspect. However, if that is what it takes to get a real investigation going, I'm in favor of it.
Spamhaus would have to file a complaint with the British authorities; Spamcop would be able to file a complaint with the FBI; SPEWS would have to file a complaint with the Austrailian authorities.
Spamcop sells a product, and if Julian Haight can prove financial losses, that makes his case stronger. Spamhaus and SPEWS does not sell a product or service, so their complaints would have a lower priority with the law enforcement organizations of their respective countries.
If Fethard and Spamcop are being attacked by that variant, Julian Haight should be contacting Fethard to coordinate the filing of criminal complaints against the attackers.
Most likely thats it. Microsoft was going to do the same thing, and abandonded it. Other now defunct programs were Flyswat, Third Voice, and zBubbles from Amazon.com
If you can take a look at it, you may be able to tell if its TopText. If not, try a google for the other programs.
I believe what Gator is doing amounts to a SLAPP suit. SLAPP, strategic lawsuit against public participation, is frowned upon in most US jurisdictions.
I've always been highly incensed with Gators tactics. In my case, Gator poses a real threat beyond losing ad revenue. Chatmag is a Directory of chat rooms, arranged by topics. I could see real harm done, say if Gator served up an ad for Bicardi over our Alcoholism chat listings page, or a gun manufacturer over the Abuse chat listings. There are many more examples. My ad philosophy is that I only show relevant ads on a given topic page, or none at all. I could only imagine what one of our viewers would think of us, finding an offensive popup ad within our directory. We do not server any popup/popunder ads within our site, period.
This latest move by Gator also tells me that they are losing the battle against bad publicity. As the bad press increases, Gator is becoming proactive in shutting down their detractors. Apparently the detractors are attracting the attention of Gators advertisers. I've followed Gators ad base, and they have steadily lost advertisers. Gator and I use the basic premise of targeting advertisers to viewers. In Gators case, they infringe on the work of others, and it seems their advertisers are catching on to their reprehensible tactics.
It may not be a word, but it is a name. John A. Quelch is the Lincoln Filene Professor of Business Administration at Harvard, and has an educational program on PBSyou TV.
My Netscape email has some settings that I can do that filters emails.
In the email program, it says, "match any of the following", so I typed in abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyx and chose "move to trash" It must work great because I don't get any more spam.
This past week I've gotten three phone calls, all from Spanish speaking telemarketers. In the three years I've been here, I have never received any calls from any Spanish speakers, a few Jamaicans, but then with the GF being Jamaican, that's expected. I could hear the "boilerroom" in the background, so I'm sure it was telemarketers. I give them my stock reply, this is not a home telephone number, it is a business, and they hang up. I've always found telling telemarketers your number is a business number cuts down on the repeat calls.

"...Megan's liability at least $825,000, at most a mere $165,000,000."
Megan - "Magic 8 Ball, is this a good time to ask for a raise of my allowance?"
*8 Ball dissolves in laughter*
There is another post on this topic that links to the report from The Internet Fraud Complaint Center.

I found some as wav files, if that helps. Dr. Who Themes scroll down the list for the Dr. Who themes.
I've tried the link to Spamhaus several times.
./'ed again
C. is there a real difference between A and B?
Are they being: A. DDoS'ed again B.

They would block spammers in a heart beat if the spammers claimed American made Viagra is superior to Chinese made Viagra.

Good Luck and good hunting
Maybe its TopText. Check this site to see if it looks like what you're trying to get rid of.
Sponge AlGore Square Pants has been named the new project director.
Maybe the RIAA made him a better offer.

According to the recording at the 800 number supplied, this was a draft email that was sent out prematurely.
It was the closest category in the list.
I'd of thought spammers would be up there in the top professions list.
It's a joke.

Posted to IRC/Unity and available on IRChelp. Maybe thats what they are looking for.
In Windows, its Start>Shut Down>Shut Down>OK
