If they had ported Mac OS X I would have bought it along time ago
OK, it's been said a million times before, but Apple is a hardware company.
Mac OS X is a great product, but its sole purpose is to sell Macs. If they ported it to run on generic X86 boxen, they'd never sell enough to recoup the losses on hardware sales. Plus supporting the myriad combinations of hardware would cost a fortune, and lose them the "it just works" factor.
What message is this supposed to send? Why would the EU change its mind because a few sites decided to protest?
I guess it's more aimed at publicising the campaign against European software patents than directly pressurising the European Parliament. Judging from the susprised reactions here, it doesn't look like many people were aware of the campaign before, so it seems to be working.
What if the purpose of these viruses is something much more vast and daring then we all really think? What if it is a deranged person that thinks that by taking over thousands of computers he can somehow create world domination?
Hmmm, a deranged person intent on world domination by taking over everyone's computer, eh?
That would explain why he made Windows vulnerable to the worm...
Sorry, forgot to mention it's a UK model (Thompson) TiVo, which seems to be the hardest of all to upgrade. Looks like my options are to either borrow a PC or buy a ready-configured drive.
Has anyone had any success upgrading a TiVo (adding a larger HD, installing software for the TurboNet card etc) using a Mac?
Given that the TiVo runs Linux on a PPC processor, it seems a little ironic that I'll have to get my hands on a Wintel box to upgrade it, when I have perfectly good OS9, OSX and LinuxPPC machines available.
I wonder if it might have been the other way round -- Jobs dropping Disney because they were insisting on using MS's proprietary DRM.
Why are you lumping gay porn in with child porn? Is the only acceptable porn that depicting women, or heterosexual couples?
Just curious.

And anyone who thinks these specs would be deliberately leaked three days before a "Stevenote" doesn't understand Apple.
[1] Or "soccer" for the non-UK majority.
