The US is NOT a democracy, it is a Republic.

I'd rather not live in a nation that is mob (not gangster) ruled personally.

The size of an http request is very tiny compared to the webpage content you are requesting. The theory goes that you don't need to send a lot of data out, but you will get lots of data in. Also, it makes it frustrating to operate any services like mail or web. This way they can charge more for symetrical speeds.

It should be far from amazing that the people who are making large sums of cash are the first ones to scream "thief!" If business believes that internationalization and lowering of trade barriors is good for the economy (see the theory of comparative advantage) then they should not be allowed to legislate their monopoly though expanded copyright, DCMA, etc. Let free trade really rule and see what happens!

  8. Re:Problem on NTSB Recommends Black Boxes For All Cars · · Score: 1

There are benefits to black boxes, sure. However those boxes don't just record X minutes before a crash, they record all the time. What is happening here is the potential for legislation creep. Look at the seatbelt laws in Massachusetts for example. Has it saved lives? Sure has. But I believe that it should be MY choice to ware it, not the state. I for one am tired of other people always in my business, or inventing ways to have access to my business.

Once the black box is "accepted" by the population as the way things are, you can bet your insurance company will make it a prerequisit to scan your driving habits for gaining/maintaining coverage. It's not a law, but it craps up my life with more red tape and flaming hoops to jump through.

Black boxes - not just for crashes anymore!

Let me clue you in on a little thing - EVERY FSCKing JOB can be done overseas that makes above minimum wage. I'm in my second semester back at school and I've never set foot in a classroom. All Internet based baby! My professors just happen to be based in the US for now, but. . . There is absolutely no reason they could not be from Elbonia or wherever. I'm sure that they'd work for about 1/2 what this bozo makes. I wonder what his attitude would change to then. It's a hard, hard thing your kids ask "Daddy, why are you home today?"

It is all a case of "it's not me so it's not a big deal" - at least until they come for you.

Try no enforcement period. What the law makers have to realize is that the Internet consists of the whole world. If I don't like the laws and restrictions in the US, I'll move my operations to Sealand or some other place. Just look at the shipping industry and whare all those tankers, cargo, and cruise ships register. Sure the US could put pressure on some countries, but I don't see them blocking Korea or China any time soon.

While I applaud Yahoo for taking the initiative, this is just one more method to combat SPAM that will only work if everyone does it. I'd have to accept mail at my gateways from non-signaturized email anyway cause all the users would gripe that their friends couldn't send them the joke of the day.

Even then, these header signatures could be easily forged by the spammers.
