Some people are happy drunks, some violent drunks, some just drunk. Me, i'm a tired drunk. I drink 2 beers and I want to find a nice bed to sleep in. Having a liquor with caffine in it that won't break the bank (like Red Bull with something else added) and still get me buzzed might be what I need. My annoyed wife might actually be able to stay out for more than 3 hours at a club now...which I might like as well (hint: drunk nookie is good).
In my area (Rockford, IL), if you call the "cable company" and say you will come and pick it up (the new box that is)...they will usually give you a month for free for saving them the tech time. It never hurts to ask.
Ever notice how ATI is becoming more like AMD as nVidia is becoming more like Intel
AMD = ATI = Smaller, elegant, and cost effective solution
Intel = nVidia = Bigger, power hungry, and costly solution
I'm not trying to troll, just noticing how the two vendors appear to me.
Tend to disagree. Their "yearly salary" and their current "signing and retention bonuses" are two totally different things. My aunt last year, a nurse, made more in bonuses that her salary by shifting hospitals as soon as she could. Don't feel "too" sorry for the nurses, well at the ones who don't feel bound to any one hospital.
I do not think if fair to single out CS people and tell them you must conform. The base2 method of counting in terms of 1 kbyte = 1024 bytes was developed even before "software" existed.
The method that CS people used was developed from hardware that they used. For example a TI 2407 dsp, I know it has a 16 bit data bus and a 16 bit data bus. This yields 4294967296 bytes of usable space data space. When I talk to my fellow engineer, I not going to give the long hand version of this number, I'm going to say 4 GB. Why, it is efficient. Also, rattle the long version of that number off to your manager and he will scratch his head until you say 4 GB.
We didn't revise history for base 10 mathematics, we adapated base 10 mathematics to fit base 2 mathematics. The same thing should be said about that 1 byte = 8 bits; shouldn't it be 10 bits to keep in line with base 10 mathematics!
I also ecourage people that if they are going to get all bent out of shape about this, they need to get bent out of shape about how 1 mile = 1.609344 km instead of saying 1 mile = 1.6 km.
Most other "sciences" easily fit into base 10 mathematics, the world of computer hardware does not.
I don't think they are getting ignored because they are "being mistreated". I think they are being ignored because they aren't spending money in the volumes that the peroxide companies would like. In many industries $100,000 is not alot.
I deal with this situtation everyday as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry. We ask for something and we get ignored because the amount we are willing to spend or the quantity we want is not worth their effort.
It isn't personal, it is just economics. Money Paid - Product Cost - Product Overhead = Profit. In a chemical business, the margins are typically small, so they need to make it up in volume.
If you do not care...why did you post?

Don't worry; Arnold will come along and "terminate" that law if it ever passed.
